Do you want an honest Opinion?

Good grief that is gaudy looking.

Maybe it just needs a Boyds stock. ;D

Thanks for the honesty.   :-[
But if I went with your idea on that Boyds stock, Sonny, I would need this:  ;)

OK. I see it now. You have some sort of laser assisted lever action assault rifle. An AK 94AE. That is not even on the RCMP FART disc. ;) ;) ;)

Ok, I am going to punish you guys some more before I bring out the sexy rifles.   :D

This was a project I did for the tree stand that I started last year.
I had an old CIL 16 gauge single shot that I bought as a kid.  Actually shot a lot of ducks with it.
So I don't really use it anymore so I figured it might make a good foster slug gun.
First step was some precision drilling and tapping for a weaver rail.  Massively thick chamber and I stayed shallow and to the rear, lots of steel, no safety concerns.
Second was the Tasco red dot sight and boy it is quite nice for a cheap unit.
Third was to shoot it and see what foster slugs might work best.  40 yards tried Winchester/Federal/Remington and they were all over the map.  Not impressed.  12" plus groups.
Fourth - So I figured the full choke was the culprit and not good to have anyways so I made a tool and measured where the choke started.  I cut it at that point (about 2-7/8") and refinished the crown.  Shoot the Remington fosters again and wow, honestly can group better than 2" at 40 yards!  So totally worth the work.  Fixed the broken ejector (economical parts from Western Gun Parts, thanks ).

I have the Maverick 88 with the rifled sabot barrel and the scope, but this little gem will get some use too.

Do you guys think this is sacrilege?  :-\ Leveraction please weigh in.  ;)
So I wanted to help out my eyes a bit and turn my Model 94 lever into a better shooter at the same time.
No way would I go so far as to scope it even though it is an angle eject.  94AE
So I really love these red dot reflex sights so I put a Burris Fastfire 3 on it.  It is a 3 MOA dot size and has a nice auto brightness feature.
It has a snap on protective hood too if desired.
I will see how it shoots this weekend with the new sight.  I am hoping it will be a practical 175 yard bush gun.  Sticking to shooting 170 grain round noses though I think so far.

The thing I like with these holographic sights is that with my glasses on the dot is in focus and so is the target at distance.  With the iron sights this is a bit problematic for me.
Pics:

Well that's a first for me.
But to each there own, whatever works for ya.

Picked up this semi auto 12 guage from wolverine when they were clearing them out for 1/3 of the regular price.
Fun toy and been carrying it with 3" slugs when in the woods with the dogs this summer.
Online people bitch about there reliability but it Runs like a top with full power loads.
Not designed for low brass target loads is all.i have tried them and they usually produce one failure per mag or so.

I have one on my Lever action as well, I can't  see well enough to shoot open sights. Do what you need to legally do to be accurate.  Ignore the naysayers I couldn't care less what someone else thinks about the way I shoot/hunt.

Anybody reload slugs and buck shot on this forum?

What kind of projectiles do you load?

I mean legal ones. Not the kind on the Taofledermaus u tube site. :)

OK Axe let us get serious.

Would you place that cheap tasco on your Maverick 88?

I think a scope on a 100 yard shooting platform is rather too much. Unless you got a good deal on the scope. :) ;)

Just wondering what you figure.

Thank you.

Ok Axe, lets see sacrilege yes, John Wayne turning over in his grave yes, but if it’s a game getter you want the tool to do the job. With my 60 year old eyes I had to go to a peep style site on my hunting lever’s , that helped for now. But the day will come when a few scopes will need to be worn on my cowboy arsenal, or I’ll need to hunt with a bazooka and just get close.

Oh Oh:

My post is getting interpreted as being hostile. No way.

I have an old Mossberg with a Picatinny rail on it and was wondering how to dress it up with some sort of scope.

My message may have been interpreted as being very direct. I am a person who asks questions in a very straight forward objective no nonsense style. Some people  may not like that sort of questioning, but Axe is a person who has been trained to communicate in the same manner.  He will understand my question, or enquire more.

Please forgive me if I have insulted anyone.

Well guys, I shot the Model 94 with the Burris red dot yesterday and sighted it in.
It is better than any sight, yes by far.  Better than a Lyman or Skinner peep sight, by far!
The auto-brightness is great and a must in my opinion.  It is easy to see and the 3 MOA dot is smaller than the  iron sight by far and much more precise.  Red dots are a easy to see and allow very fast target acquisition, if you never looked through one, try it.
My accuracy was greatly improved!

It is not a scope, 1X magnification and completely open field of view. Not a scope. No parallax error.  Not bulky or heavy.
Just new technology on an old style classic. (insert John Wayne scowl here).  Easy to remove to get back to classic.  My 94AE was already drilled from factory.
Must rely on the battery but they claim battery life to be 5000 hours with auto shutoff after 9 hours.

The second Model 94 - pre 64, my Grandpa's old gun, will stay unmodified.  :)

The Maverick 88 with the rifled barrel and sabot slugs is a 200 yard gun.  A scope is not too much on that and those Nikon P3 series BDC 200 shotgun scopes are made exactly purpose built for that.  BDC dots tuned for sabot slugs, long eye relief, and high recoil tolerance.

The Tasco red dot is perfect for the foster slug gun as that is a 75 yard gun max.

I think you found what works Axe, I’m sure there was many of old pioneers that wished they had that kind of sight back in the day.

Thanks Axe for starting me out on shotgun optics.

I have some shotgun optics home work to do now. I am currently looking at effective slug and buckshot reloads to run off the old Ponsness 375 shotshell reloader.

Using a shotgun for deer hunting is something completely new to me.

If I looked like a grouch, I am sorry.

No worries ever, Greylynx.
The price on reloading shotshells is no longer economical but for slugs it sure would be.  They charge a small fortune for those.
Foster slugs are about a $1.60 a shot but sabots are crazy at about $4.00 a shot.
The reason for my interest in shotgun hunting is the Strathcona county seasons.  I have tons of access there.
If you need any high brass hulls, I have some.

Just aquired this brand new little .22 pistol in a trade.
It's a issc m22.
Not really a fan of polymer pistols but the wife finds the weight of steel frame pistols uncomfortable so I am sure it will find some use.
Testing scheduled for asap!
