Just for Chit and giggles
« on: November 02, 2018, 11:20:04 PM »
I ordered one of these..

https://www.cabelas.ca/product/70209/cabelas-caliber-specific-riflescopes

Can't argue with the price so if it's a piece of crap it's no biggie..

Let you know later how it works.

I bet there's nothing wrong with it be a fine scope I'm sure. This day and age boys these units are all made by computer. There's no more hand made glass or hand made components. The percentage of the components come from only a handful of manafctues and are assembled at company plants.

Should be fine, not every rig needs a high end scope. Unless it’s a big magnum maybe. What going to wear it sonny?

It's going on an old Winchester model 70 .30-06.  It had a good Diamondback 4x12 on it but I put that scope on my .223.
I don't shoot the .30-06 much but I do want it to be ready to go if I ever want to take it out.The price on this Cabelas scope is good and the reviews are mostly good.I just can see spending 100's of dollars for a scope that I might only shoot once a year.

Good idea to having the old Model 70 ready to go.

Hope the base and rings don't cost you more than the scope. :) ;)

The el cheapo scope arrived the other day and right out of the box it looked pretty good. Glass is nice and clear, BDC recticle is sharp and bright.
My old rings won't work on the short tube and I had to get a set of extension rings.

I'll take it to the range tomorrow and see how it shoots.

Well I'm very impressed with this scope. It does exactly what it's supposed to do.

Shot a couple shots at 25 yards to make sure it was on paper and then about a dozen shots at 100 yards.

Best group I got was about 1.5 inches but most were closer to 2 inches.Next it was over to the 600 yard range (580 yards) to hit some gongs.

First shot @ 200 yards=hit
Second shot @ 300 yards=hit
Third shot @400 yards = hit
Forth shot @500 yards = hit
Next two shots @ 580 yards were just above gong
Third shot @ 580 was a hit. 8)
Keep in mind that I was using a dual frame lead sled with 25 lbs plate on it.

This is a pretty darn good scope for only $89 and I'd rate it 4 out of 5..I can't give it 5 because I don't know how well it will hold up under actual hard hunting conditions.

Anyway I'm happy with it. :)

haha... my hunting days are pretty much over unless we are talking chickens. (can't let speckle get them all)  ;D ;D

I do still put in for moose tags and if I get one then I'll invite junior up from Airdrie.

If I shoot one then I'll hold up the leg and let him do the grunt work.lol  ;D

Bought this old Winchester70 .30-06 way back in 1976 and it put a lot of moose on the table.

Just didn't seem right to see it in the gun safe without a scope. She's good to go now. ;) ;)

Just in case. ;)

Well if your not that physically able anymore Sonny there's always deer hunting my friend. Nothing wrong with driving around and popping a deer for the table or some sausage.

Sonny:

Walleyes has a point there about deer hunting.
Especially the whitetails in your neck of the woods.
Forty years ago you would hardly see a whitetail in your area.
Now they are like gophers. They even taste good compared to those "bark eatin mulies". :)

You are 100% correct and now you hardly see a mulie.
