New rifle
« on: October 04, 2016, 05:37:47 PM »
I'm in the market for a good quality lightweight rifle. I got a certificate for a quigley for scope for a270 so I'm wanting to upgrade from my old pump 270.  Looking at possibly the Remington mountain ss, Kimber Hunter or Kimber montana. I don't want to spend a crazy amount of money, the Montana is even a little more than I care for.  Anyone have suggestions or experience with any of the above? I'm not a tikka fan so they're out. I'm open to a lot of different brands though.

I have a Rem mountain SS in 280 Rem and a Winchester feather weight in 308 both are close to the same weight. The Winchester seems to kick more than the Remington ,but the Winchester is a beautiful rifle. Either one is a good buy for under $ 1000. Both have very thin barrels and are 22 inches long. A Kimber mountain ascent would be nice but are more than twice the money.

Remington's have served me well over the years. Can't go wrong.

I am currently carrying a Browning X Bolt Composite Stalker in 300 wsm it's a nice gun, shoots nice maybe the lightest over the counter rifle out there beats the Sako Finnlight by a few ounces. Not bad in price either.

I've always had Remington rifles and Winchester shotguns. Think I may buy the Remington for now as cabelas is selling them online for below dealer cost. Then in a couple years I may upgrade to a higher end rifle that can be passed down in my family.
