Simple target build
« on: May 11, 2013, 09:17:25 AM »
newbie here testing photo upload, if it works.... I made a couple of these target stands to put out on the gopher hills near the house, target plates are 5"x5" and can swing so any hits are deflected nearly straight down after impact.

Pic name shows in the browse line but I dont see a specific upload button and the pic(218kb) doesnt show in the preview pane, I may be missing something here unless it is auto uploaded when I hit the post button?

OK that worked.. so these are for air rifle or rimfire, I made them on my coffee breaks last week at work, some of you might have seen them over at AO but maybe somebody here can use some ideas.... or offer some. They work well, hits are clearly visable and I'll just need to keep a can of paint around to refresh them occasionally.

What are the target plates made of? Did you cut that out of sheet metal? I'm new lol.

I like it! Is this something "average joe" can make or do I have to be a welder and have dude tools lol?

thx, actual targets are 1/4 plate cut with a handheld bandsaw, hacksaw would do it tho, there was a bit of welding involved on the stands but a person could also bolt something together. Main upright is 3/8x1" with the shooter facing the narrow edge, top bar is 7/8" round and the targets are hung from old bungie hooks which allows the targets to swing. Metal fab is my trade so I have lots of scrap and some tools that not everyone might have but I think most ppl could take the idea and make something work with what ever tools they have.

Great idea Lance, I just bought a mig welder and may have to try and build me one of those. How long is your vertical 1"?

They're 42" tall, just because I had an 84" pc of flat bar laying around, left 6" below the foot rest so they're about 36" tall once placed. I set them out so that the top of hill behind them is still well above the shooting line.

S'pose I should mention.... these wouldn't be safe for high power rifles, I may do some r+d and come up with something but I would not recommend using this design for anything bigger than a rimfire.

or if your local and would like one built I only drink whiskey;)
