Trap Shooting questions
« on: May 29, 2011, 08:16:16 AM »
I am wondering how everyone is set up for shooting trap with their shotguns with 2 barrels. What chokes do you have in your doubles and at what yardage do you decide to use full choke ? I use full and IC. In my second year and go to full at 21 yds.  Really enjoy the sport but am no screaming hell shooting ! I have the odd day where i think , i have finally figured it out and my next day the "wheels fall off." Always have great fun though !

worry more about form and followthrough.your choke choices are not out of line.remember to keep both eyes open!

The previous poster's comment is sage advice

I shoot more sporting clays than trap, but if you want to know what is going on a patterning board is your friend. I have noticed that kent 3 dram 1 1/8 shells pattern tight for the choke in my shotgun, while a few of the promotional loads with softer shot are more open.

And then there is shot size. And payload size, and....

One thing the US Olympic trap team does is that they load two shells and shoot the largest piece of the broken target - it helps keep them concentrating on the target (follow through). Oh and when they miss they lock the trap thrower on that position and shoot a flat of shells on that missed target presentation......

Doubles is modified and full ( I'm an old school trap shooter)
I know of late many shooters are going with IC for the first bird, but back in the day it was either full/full or mod/full.
As was already stated, form and timing has a lot more to do in the great scheme of things than choke....
Cat
Well, now, that didn't work so good......
