My dad gave me a 44/40 Cheyenne commemorative rifle years ago, the guy he got it from claimed it had never been fired. Anyone know the rough value of something like this now?

I would say bout $700-900 if ya got the box and all original documentation. In good shape.

These commeratives were never worth much. Just go and shoot it. Way more fun.

To the right buyer the sky is the limit  ;). I would say between $6-700 at the most. As Bigbore said they were never worth all that much, and not nearly as much as most people thought they were going to be when they purchased them new.

Without a mint condition box and paperwork it is a shooter anyways. Take it out, shoot it and get it dirty. You will never retire off of the money you get from selling it so have fun with it  8)
