Like I said Darcy,, just because there are idiots out there why should we all be punished.. There was a guy that shot up a school here a while back,, he used a gun,, should guns be taken away from everyone or just the idiots of this world.. Should my quad use be restricted because drunken town kids head in the bush for the weekend and tear the crap out of the place.. Enforce the laws we have in place, charge the few idiots out there that are wrecking it for everyone,, get the message out there that we won't stand for this and it will get know and people will start to respect the rights we have before we lose them all.

Darcy people like you and I could hunt a mountain side by side and never bother each other, probly never know the other guy was there, you in your style and I in mine,, it's not the machines that ruin it,, it's the goof balls on them. Those same people will wreck a hunt or a weekend on a mountain regardless what they are out there with..

I agree that it needs to be enforced for sure but at this point there is no regulations stopping it.
And yes those would need to regulate everyone.

As for it being drunken town kids or just a couple idiots, well you obviously have never been Quading or camping in the problem areas on a long weekend or even a regular weekend.

Anyways there needs to be habitat destruction rules and that needs to pertain to all users. Won't affect the average Joe putt putt rider but will affect The majority of riders in some areas.

There actually are some NEW regulations.
A few years back the Public Lands Act Regulations (PLAR) were re-written.

The reason we DO need new regulations from time to time?

Frequently Asked Questions about Public Lands Administration Regulation
Show All
General Questions about the Public Lands Administration Regulation (PLAR)

Why is this regulation needed?
Alberta is growing and there’s more activity on public land – whether it’s for work or for play. This regulation gives government more tools to manage this increasingly busy landscape to ensure Alberta’s public land is here for future generations to enjoy.

What does the regulation mean for recreationists?
Albertans can continue to enjoy responsible recreation on public land. The regulation clarifies the rules so people know where they can and can’t go. For example, people don’t need approval to ride off-highway vehicles (OHVs) on trails, but may need a permit to go off-trail or to hold an OHV rally. Access permits let staff look at what else is happening on the landscape, so conditions can be set that provide enjoyment and protect the land.
The regulation also allows temporary closure under certain conditions. For example, an area might be closed to OHVs to avoid ruts from spinning tires in very wet conditions, or sparks that could start a fire, but hiking might still be allowed.
As always, recreationists wanting to go onto public land that is leased for grazing must contact the leaseholder for permission.

Basically I think it means that years ago when there were 50 quads out in the Bighorn dam area and 2 or 3 of them washed their quads in a creek it wasn't such a big problem.  Now that there are thousands of quads out in the same area and hundreds are washing in the creek it IS A BIG PROBLEM and so it requires new regulations and more enforcement.

I am for educating the masses not controlling them like sheep.  Gates will be closed to the public but open to industry.

Fortunately I have my own property with game and fish.  500$ deer tags and 200$ fishing liscense won't affect me much can you say the same?  Crazy thinking hey.

I have always said hunting was a rich mans sport looks like I will get to see it in my lifetime in Canada.

Well you can times the masses you saw 10-12yrs ago by probably 5-10x and the percent that own quads by at least 50%.

It's a totally different world in some areas.

SRD has created the problems in some areas Maclean creek , indain graves ect.  Forcing people into confined areas then they send a news crew out to cover the havoc. The  4x4 community is painted with a wide brush just like hunters funny how there is no news on 4x4 clubs repairing trails or clean ups.

Education is the key not more regulations.

How much do all these extra quads pump into our ecnonamy?  Much more than the toll both to drive up the ice fileds I bet.

No controlling the rejects from the city to destroy the country.

It's far from just city people Justin. It's people from all areas.

No doubt we all have.  I think the big deference is we did it in a time when it wasn't so rampant and it was no big deal.  Make no mistake,, there are still times when I have to get to a spot and there may be wet spots in the way and I go through them but I am not talking random biking these are existing trails on cut lines that we use. I guess we are talking the common sense factor here and as we all know society is lacking this in truck loads these days.

Yep we were all young and stupid once. Lol you no pics from those days either for me.

We were all young once but I don't think "stupid" is normal.  At least I hope not.

I have made some mistakes in the past but it was from lack of knowledge and experience.  I believe I avoided doing many "stupid" things because I thought about it first and decided not to do them.

So the mistakes you made in the past were they corrected with regulation and laws ?

Interesting question.  Yes and no.

There were mistakes I could have made if it had not been for the laws and rules at the time.

There are rules and laws that have come into place that have saved myself and some from making mistakes.

People who say "we have enough rules and laws, we don't need any more" are not looking at the facts.

So 20 years ago there was no "Distracted driving Law".  Then more cell phone use and other activities while driving started to be the cause of more accidents.  People are often too dense to do what is good for themselves and others in society.  They had to make a law against distracted driving.
