HDS 8 is far times better! the strength of the hds is 30,000 watts!! its the best on the market. with that said it also has features like gps, sonar, down and side scan ( accessory) , typical viewing , all your gauges and all of this in many different viewing screens and splits. also different views in general like night view, ice view colored view b/w view and alot more. its crazy what you can see on the sonar compared to others. actually kinda a sad but interesting story was at hanmore lake they had actually found a little girl that drown using the hds side scan !! we also have a customer in all the time and she told us while he was sitting at wabamun lake he actually saw about a 20+lb pike come off the bottom using his split screen with side scan and sonar option its a really cool unit and in my opinion after working with them and seeing what their capable of nothing beats them

I run the hds 8 and it has helped me get on the fish and stay on them when I am on the hunt for eyes. I have had it for going on 2 seasons and I love it. The plan was to get the LSS-1 this season but due to a back injury and not working plus a broken down motor I wasn't able to do so. Once I can get back to work and get all caught up I will be installing the structure scan module to make an amazing sonar even better.

I had used Lowrance all my life, from 1999 to 2010.  I was a big fan of their products, but their customer service and manufacturing have gone down hill big time.  I run several units on my boats, and in 2009, and 2010 I ran 2 HDS at my cockpit, and one up on the bow.  I had had 6 HDS units, and then a bunch more from warranty problems.  Last year in the fall, the straw that broke the camel's back for me was trying to log sonar files while I was at a tournament in the ststes, and while trying to do so, I lost every file, waypoint, and route I had in the unit.  I was devistated, and could not find any reasons for what happened.  I had also been through transducers like crazy and had had enough.  This year after being sick of the troubles I had had with HDS units, I got two Humminbird 1198's, and so far I am extremely happy.  The Side Imaging is great, the unit is easy for use and setup.  I rely on my electronics, and feel that they are every bit the product that Lowrance is, and they are made in the US, not in Mexico.  iIt took me a little bit to get used to with the differences in menu's and such, but I now run it flawlessly.  I had to adjust my transducer a bit, but now have it right and it and holds bottom perfectly.
