outboard repair in edmonton
« on: May 10, 2011, 03:24:34 PM »
I have a 1955 5.5hp evinrude outboard. I was able to fire it up with just a couple pulls however it ain't spitting any water and therefore over heats. Not being that mechanically inclines I was hoping to take it somewhere to have a new impeller put in. Any where preferably in the west end of edmonton?

Getting work done on older outboards can be tricky to find someone who will do it, as most larger dealers won't touch older stuff.  Myself, I would find an impeller on the net and put it in on your own.  It's not hard or complicated, and is really a simple process.

Yeah Chris I was thinking the same Ifound the parts on the net ($17) plus shipping so cheapy beapy!! I'm just afarid of screwing the thing up but I think I may have a buddy whom will volunteer to give me a hand he's pretty handy. The motor is classic and it has the Canadian F & W logo hand painted on it's pretty retro.

Guys, for older or any outboard motor repairs or parts try my buddy Randal at Moose Lake.  He is the damn man when it comes to outboards.  He is very reasonable and has a ton of experience.  He is a licensed mechanic and retired NAIT mechanics instructor.  He set up a home shop business at his place on Moose Lake to help out fellow sportsman and make a bit of extra coin.  Tell him Dave his old hunting partner sent you.  ;)

I think we are allowed to make recommendations here without getting banned.....lol.

I have a similar problem with my older 65merc. although that is not the only problem. I fear that the previous owner took it apart and left out some key pieces to the shaft assembly. We will see when I have it apart this weekend...... My fingers are crossed
