Which release should I try?
« on: April 07, 2013, 03:43:44 PM »
Hey guys/gals,

I am looking to get a new release.

I am not sure which brand to look at and which type to try.

I will be using it for hunting and target practice.

Should I stick with a buckle type wrist release or go to a pressure type release?

Also if I stick with a wrist release should I go with a single or double caliper?

I am shooting with a cheap cobra right now but am not a fan of the velcro strap.

Thanks in advance for the help and advice.

I would stick with a caliper style release.  personally I use a single caliper release when hunting (Its my original from 1994 and has never let me down!!  LOL and still has the velcro) but I also use a back-tension style when shooting competitive 3D.  The buckle style are very common and would work very weel I am sure.  Make sure the caliper attachment to the wrist is adjustable and will fall out of the way when you are using your hands.  The style that has the stiff rod can be cumbersome and easy to hit your bow when a deer is around, and that never ends well.

Thanks for the reply Weste.

I ended up just getting a scott buckle strap and reused my cobra caliper adjustable release.

The buckle is quite a bit more comfortable then the velcro one was and was less noisy when putting it on or taking it off.

I will use that release until I notice something happening and have to switch it up.

It seems to be working fine for me and my grouping has been gradually getting better now that I am shooting more often.
