2014 Alberta hunting draws
« on: May 27, 2014, 08:02:17 PM »
Well people what hunting draws are we putting in for this year in the great province of Alberta, and how are your priorities looking?

Moose P5 999? Not sure might try a combo moose elk hunt this year?
Mule deer P6 999 no time to hunt
Antelope P8 I think? 999 no time.

Be 999 across the board for me and Sam this year. Sam won't be going this year as it's his last year of High School ball and he ain't missing that. The middle boy has a high priority on his moose so we will put that one in. Going to some new ground this fall so that will be fun. So will just be raising some priorities this year for myself.

Antlered mule deer.....P5
Antlered moose..........P0
Antlerless moose........P2
Antlerless elk.............P5

Think I'll put in for antlerless elk and 999 the rest.

Will be 999 all the way around for me this year again, just no where near the required priorities to pull a tag for moose, elk, antelope or sheep where I want to hunt  :(

Will be hunting general zones for sheep ths year, hoping to get a cat hunt lined up as well, will see though.

Wife, Antlerless elk and local deer tags.

Me, Moose and Wainwright deer.  999 the rest.  Was planning on applying for the local bull elk season but with wife going to draw a cow tag I'll wait till next year.  The extra priority on it won't hurt anyway.

looking like 999's here as I will be doing a 13 day hunt in Namibia in August for plains game, kinda blows my time off for anything here.  LOL  just chase an elk with the bow otherwise I am chief guide for my daughter.  I am also going to hit Texas again with my 10 year old son for 3 days in October.  We had a blast last year and it was a relatively inexpensive hunt.

How are the Wainwright deer looking?  I believe I am a P8 there so could get drawn anytime.

Wife, Antlerless elk and local deer tags.

You know, I really don't know Weste, I started putting in with son when he was still in highschool as a flintlock season but with his commitments since it just hasn't panned out.  With P10 I just decided this year I'm going.

Sure we'll find deer, and will also use the time to spot for moose.  (son is something like P11 now)  He's spent quite a bit of time at Wainwright so that should be a boon(assuming he can get leave (fingers crossed)).

Irregardless, I booked a room today to beat the rush, so as long as I don't screw up the draw app I'm going.

Tough one for me this year.
It is our year of priority building in our group for antlered moose draws.  With all the new Albertans and hunters we are up to a draw every 3 years now in our zone. (Late season)

Antlered Moose P1
Antlerless Moose P1 (from 1998....lol...it shows up now on the new system)
Antlered Mule Deer P2
Antlerless Elk P7

I will be 999 the moose and mule deer this year.
I will likely put in the Antlerless Elk this year but have to decide on a couple of zones I have had success before and pick a season.  Might do an early season for once, 346 maybe.  Buddy has a cabin in 346.
P7 is overkill for 507 or 346 but what the hell, I hate hunting areas I don't know well and likely won't stray from my familiar zones.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

I only have priority 1 on a antlered moose, & 2 other animals.

I was drawn for an antlerless Elk, antlerless Mule Deer & Antlered Mule Deer in 2013 & I didn't see any of the animals during hunting season. I will put in for the Bull Moose & Mule Deer for 2014.  I need to find land in 334 to hunt on that has mule deer.

Well I took the big gamble and put Jordan in for 525 for our moose hunt this year. Not that it's a gamble on wether there is moose or not I am very confident there is good game where we are headed it's just completely new territory for us,. So it should be an interesting year for us, it's been quite a few years since we have explored new moose country,, now we wait.

Other than that all four of us 999ed everything else across the board.

999 for everything except moose which is a long shot.  Keeping it simple and hope to focus on archery elk, sheep, and whitetails.

The waiting begins, draws are done!  Heard from son today so was able to finish our draws.  As planned, son will be with us for Wainwright first rifle, wife's on the bubble for that.  Next stop, July 16th.

Ok put my draws in just 999 everything this year.  Will spend my time in the Edmonton bow zone, 338and up by Edson.  Might push into 340 more but have not hunted in that area before mainly 338. Hopefully the Elk herds are back around.
