I was out to my private "range" range today to shoot some hand-loads. A friend built some that shoot well in his 7mm-08 amd gave me some to try in mine. My rifle has a longer barrel and he wanted to see what the velocity difference was. I wanted to see if the accuracy was better than the factory stuff I had been shooting. I also chronyed some .222 hand-loads in my new CZ 527 LUX.
Then for fun I shot some .44 mag, through the chrony with my Ruger carbine. To error is human they say, but to shoot a hole in your chrony is just dumb. Enough said.
Then I set up a trail cam at a lick where I had got pics of deer and elk before. And I went to a water hole i Found last Nov. and it was loaded with tracks on top of tracks. I set out three cams and will check them in 3 or 4 days. May be a good place to set up a tree stand and wait with my bow.

I'll see what the trail cam pic show but I always tell myself I will shoot a "supplemental doe" first thing and then the venison pressure will be off. Maybe I should sit here opening day and do so.

If you are getting a target buck on your trail cams, I would hold off shooting anything but the animal you are after. No use messing with the patterns of the animals for a meat doe. Have a couple other places to hunt for the "meat" doe when the conditions aren't right at this site.

So I had put three cameras looking at different angles of the water hole. I picked them up today and looking at #1 and #2 I saw lots of pics of does and does with spotted fawns. Then I am looking at #3 and thinking "kind of a waste of time and picks to have three cameras on one water hole I'll just have the same does on this cam. Then I see one picture of a buck approaching the water. Not sure if the cam taking his pic spooked him so he did not come in and get snapped by the other cams or what.

Definitely some potential there. Should be fun to watch him grow over the summer.
