Buddy's Buck
« on: November 30, 2014, 03:26:32 PM »
Had a good buddy of mine from the left coast come out for a visit this past week to hunt.
I had put him in with the better half for a mulie buck draw and they both drew a tag.Cindy filled her buck tag last week and her mule doe tag the week previous.
Glenn flew in on Tuesday afternoon and we were ready to hunt for the next morning.
I have been all over that MU for the past few years and this year was not different in being able to spot where the small bands of animals were.
We went out to a creek bottom area that I knew held mulies and set up to spot them as they came out of the buck brush and move up the hillside.I told Glenn that there was three deer that I knew were in the area that I thought would be good for him to take.

We checked the hillside as it started to get light out and noticed a few deer were already on the move.We looked over to our right and noticed a big bodied doe working her way across a small finger about 175 yards from us. It didn't take long to notice the other deer that was following right behind her. We both looked over and said "BUCK!!" at the same time as we were looking at one of the targeted big boys we were after come up out of the creek bottom on the doe's trail and stopped and turned.
Glenn asked if he should shoot and I said it was his call if he wanted this buck, after all it was one of the boys we were looking for. At that point he let go a shot and it was all over.
The buck went about 15 yards from where he was shot and dropped and the morning's hunt was done. Official shooting time was around 07:25 and the buck was down at about 08:15

Its been a good year
