First Time Hunter Looking for Veteran Knowledge
« on: August 06, 2019, 04:24:34 PM »
Hi All,
I am a first time hunter looking for a veteran who is willing to help pass along knowledge so one day I can do the same.
I have a Antlerless White Tail in WMU 118, Antlerless Mule Deer in WMU 102 and a Antlerless Elk in WMU 300 (A).

If anyone can pass along some information on those areas or someone who is will to show the ropes it would be greatly appreciated.

You can message me here and we can get in contact to pass along numbers or emails.

I appreciate everyone time and look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Regards
Nathan

Welcome, great site for info but I have none on those zones. Good luck filling a tag or two.

No shortage of deer in those zones Nathan filling an antlerless tag will be very easy. If possible and it’s essential that you go a do some pre season scouting and line up your land and permission on the land. Download a copy of the land owners map.  http://www.cypress.ab.ca/p/rural-land-ownership-maps

Get out there do some glassing and talk to the land owners. Remember it will be foot access only so be prepared to pack out your meat, either on a cart or in game bags on your back.

Some tough country to hunt elk in up there. Those animals are cagey beyond belief, nocturnal is what they are, very field shy. If you have the opportunity get up there earlier and talk to some land owners and see if you can get some permission on private land I would say is your best bet. Look south of town in the North Star area and to the west. Chat with some land owners and get the low down on them, permission is not hard to get there but is necessary I think anyways in order to fill a tag.
