^^^^^^

Yah makes a guy wonder.

I do have to say though going back a few years in the early 80's when my father was still guiding there was a Dutchman that used to come up from California every fall to hunt with my father he was a gun guy. Shot 7 mags and a couple 300 Weatherby Mag. They were some what custom guns nothing to crazy but better than factory barrels and maybe some bolt work not to sure as I was a teenager at the time. But He would come up a week or so early and hang out at our place as he and my Father got to be good friends but anyways like I said he was a gun guy and shot a lot. I remember we used to put up Ice cream pails filled with water for him on our range road our house was pretty much at one end of the quarter section and we would put the pails pretty much at the other end of the quarter so I would say and easy 800 yards. Old john would split open those pails more often than he missed and this I witnessed personally on more than one occasion. I'll tell you what, he was pretty pissed and disappointed when he missed.

I had a Ruger #1, 7mm STW, Swarovski scope, that thing could hit targets at 1000 easily but I needed a table and bipod at that distance, and usually 2 or 3 rounds to dial in the windage. Longest kill shot was only about 550-600 tho.

My LUCKIEST long range shot was about 475 with a 303 Enfield, deer right thru the heart, probably near 24+ inch drop with a 180gr.

In the Militia we practiced at 1000 quite often but we didnt have to pay for the ammo, I think a person would need very deep pockets to build and practice with a rifle to go hunting at such distances, I dont doubt it can be done but its not for me.
