Just finished this Mount NEW PICS ADDED!!!

I had a little time on my hands and an old set of antlers kicking around so I got a cape and threw this together.  Still not too sure if I like it or not but I have to get it in some decent light and let it dry.  Should be able to get some paint on it in a week or 2 if i get a chance.  Buck scores in the mid 170's for those who care.  I felt a little more comfortable doing this one and did it all on my own with nobody looking over my shoulder so I have a little pride in that. 
These are crappy pics but I will get some more once I get it painted and finished up.

Good job Phil ! Thats pretty cool your learning to do your own Taxi work. Are you sending the hide away for tanning or doing it yourself? Great way to use an old set of antlers. Keep up the goo dwork Eh.

Looks pretty good Nube,, little touch ups here and there and should look pretty good. Keep at it practice makes perfect man.. Thanks for lettin us have a peak..

Ya I know.  The garage is a mess.  I have all of the recycling milk jugs and pop cans stuffed in the corner and all of the ice fishing stuff still sitting there as well.  Oh and the Christmas tree that never made it to the shed :o

I need to get some decent pics up a these do not make it look all that great.  Hopefully this next week as it is dried now. 
It takes about 2 hours to prep the hide after it is tanned and I thin the lips, eyes nose and other areas.  I usually do that and put the cape back in the freezer.
Then I scuff up and prep the form.  It takes me a pretty full day to prep the form,clay , do the ears and then glue it all down and sew it.  Then it is all fine tuning and hopefully the eyes and everything is shaped right and fits well.  It is so hard to see the little things that make things right.  It isn't usually till later when it is dried that you start to notice the mistakes and it is too hard to fix it by then.

I got a chance to make a few changes on this deer and get the touchups and paint done a week ago.  Here is the final pics of the deer.  I think it turned out well for one I did on my own.  Got a 190 class deer to do for a buddy here in the next few weeks that should be fun as well.  Wish me luck.

Thanks for the coments guys.  I like the mount.  i am not a fan of both ears up and in the pictures it makes them look worse than what they are.  Next time will have one forward and one back.
Buckbrush did you get your stuff together yet so we could work on yours?  We could have done it this week.  I am working on another one right now and will probably put it together in the next week or 2 when I have a day to finish it.  It is a big 185-190" hog of a deer.  Got a short haired cape for it as well which will look nice on it.

Good job Nube, we do all of our own taxidermy as well,  it allows you to get the trophies up on the wall way quicker.
