Mandatory Harvest Reports Due
« on: January 02, 2020, 08:46:25 PM »
Please remember that the mandatory harvest reporting is new for the 2019 hunting year.  Forget to do them and you will not be able to apply for draws in the spring without penalty and hassle.  $$  These are done through the RELM system.  I did mine and they are pretty open to inaccuracy and willful manipulation.  Lots of "why" questions come to mind when doing these surveys.  Data can be interpreted for many purposes and those could help or hinder us as the resident hunter.  As hunters we are concerned with conservation for sure and in my mind aerial and ground game surveys are the key tool in that.  Again, the native harvest is a lost piece of data in the conservation game, but we know that is a given with the racist policies of our governments.

Comments?

If you checked yes to harvesting an animal it must have went into more detail. I checked no on my deer harvest and that was the end of the questioning. So I guess they could take that as they may. I’m always a little concerned on any government survey because like you say they can manipulate that information as they want.

With our new government in play I’m a lot more confident our rights as outdoorsman are protected hunting is valued by them. Under the communists I wasn’t so confident. Just look what they are doing in BC. I’ve heard rumours of some good news coming about for the new year in fishing, supposed to be a lot of opportunities opening up for walleye harvest.

Be careful with those forms.

I recall the CWS migratory waterfowl form being filled out by a fellow who worked in ornithological collections at the Royal Alberta Museum having a follow up phone call regarding his submitted information.

He admitted to having over 60 ducks, and a bunch of eagles, hawks, and owls in the deep freeze at work. It was true. They were F&W submitted birds awaiting processing for toxicology tests, study skins and study skeletons.

He had a visit to his residence by two CWS agents wanting to nail him to the cross....

Dr. P.H.R. Stepney, an avid hunter and the big boss of museum found the incident amusing.

So I keep getting the email reminders to fill this out but it is worded that it is mandatory for holders of a special license (I assume draw)?
If you did not draw any draws (I did not) am I obligated to do it still?

I’m not sure but from why I can tell if you do apply for a draw it may effect you.

Keep in mind that is not a federal thing it’s provincial. So far provincially things are looking up let’s hope it stays the course. Nothing wrong with them wanting to get hard numbers on things, may help us in the long run. Lots of tags handed out that they may take for granted that get filled and go against harvest numbers.
