My 2012 Foothills Black Bear.
« on: May 25, 2012, 02:29:29 PM »
Well got out for a tour with Duckyhunter  (WHOME I DEFFINATLY OWE NOW!!!) today and into some awesome country in a none baiting zone. We checked a bunch of old logging blocks and roads and got lucky and harvested a three or four year old boar. Not a monster by any means but I'm happy with it! Won't find a better coat on a bear that's for sure. Its my first foothills bear and its always cool to get one with out baiting.
Would have been a great bear for my boy but he was in school. Maybe this week end he will get his oppertunity!

Used my .280ai. High shoulder dropped him and one to stop any movement.

You scared of that little bear. lol. Had to shoot a second time.

Jk

Nope not scared at all. I personaly keep shooting until that animal is dead. And moving around or such gets another bullet. Even if it is not going any where and is done for I still feel I owe it to finish it completely!

I hear you sheepguide.  That is a pretty nice bear she shot especially at a young age.  I think he has it figured out pretty good!  He's not too bad at killing a goose or 2 either ;)

Yep had another good day in the field. Went out in the AM with Duckyhunter and did some spot and stalk hunting. Seen a bear early but the stalk was blown by the wind. So we went and toured some country for a few hours and when we were on our way back the same bear was out again. My boy and I stalkled him to 77yrds but he was content to lay right behind a small pine tree. We had to wait a while and when he got up he walked to our left and the boy took a shot. The bear ran into the bush where the boy got one more shot off but wasnt a quality shot. Ducky and I searched for the bear but saw no signs of him or any blood. We then dropped Ducky off so he could venture back to the city and we went and toured around for the afternoon seeing one more bear around 5' that was gone before we could get a stalk on it and then saw two of this years cubs run up a tree then climb down and tear off into the woods. Mom must have been inside the tree line. No harvest today but my boy got his first dose of buck fever and they both commented that its just nice to be out and see bears so that made me feel pretty good.
Once we got home we tried the boys gun and at 100yrds it was shooting 4" to the left. Not sure its enough for a miss but probably didnt help. We dialed it in again and he says he is ready for tomorrow night.
