New Youth Hunters For 2011
« on: June 14, 2011, 12:05:19 AM »
Anyone else have a kid that will be hunting for their first year this fall?
My oldest boy turns 12 the first part of Dec. so we will be trying for some late season tags for him. And if they dont pan out it sounds like a good friend is gunna run a cat for him and we will try and make his first big game animal a cougar.
No matter what we will be hunting im some pumped to have him able to put in for draws and pack the rifle this year.
He is shooting the .280AI like a pro so when he gets the tags I feel bad for the animals he will be after.

i have a stepson that got into archery last summer.  he shoots that bow decent.  he is showing some interest in wanting to kill something, but not sure if he will be a go yet or not.
opinions are like sphincters......everyone has one, and they all stink!

Hope he decides to. Nothing better than getting kids out for the first time.

Sounds good Bud. We will see how things are in the way of days off and maybe take you up on that offer.

That would be cool. He would love the goose hunt as well. He just started shooting clay pigeons in the field at home and is a pretty darn good shot. Just shooting 2 3/4 shells for now but could shoot bigger loads im sure. Really appreciate the offer.

That's gonna be a blast for you guys this season! Can't hardly wait for my boys to be old enough and neither can they. We had so much fun last year...

Remember a youth wildlife cert. comes with a free Bird Game Licence.  A nice bonus for youth hunting.

It's not entirely my fault... ;)

I spent much of our Costco trip the other day trying to, gently, explain why a week long sheep hunt, might not be the best place for 7 & 8 yr old boys. Not sure I ever got 'em convinced... Cracks me up. ;D

Remember the Junior Pheasant Program all you central Albertan guys. Its a free program that runs east of Innisfail on the weekends starting in September. The only request is they have taken hunter training and the family has a F&G membership for insurance reasons or a Youth membership can be bought for about 8 bucks i believe.

Your 12 yr. old can't apply for any of the draws, except for any season that is open after Dec. the way I read the regs is that correct. But next year he could apply for all the tags.

Ya  any seasons open after Dec. 7.

We put him in for,

Bison, 734 Camp Wainright Moose, 829 Wainright Special Deer, WMU 300 Bull Elk. IIRC just trying to remember without the books at work here.

You're right- what a great opportunity! We took my son over there last year. The boys had a great time. I plan on volunteering some time this fall (it's only 4 miles from our farm). Dan and the other volunteers have done a great job with that program.

Is that right Doug N . Which direction from Dan? My Sis lives about 4 miles direct west of him.
There is supposed to be another guide course with the program this year  for volunteers.

I am pretty darn sure "Junior Sheepguide" is going to do pretty darn good on the clays this fall. Cant wait to see his grin  when he downs his first Rooster!!

I'm 2 miles east and 2 miles north of Dan.

The day we took the boys there last year it was really windy and the birds were spooky. The lifted a LONG way off and gave the kids a good test. Was a GREAT day.

I told Dan I would be available to help out this year. I was going to donate some Merriams turkeys too, but the hatch wasn't very successful.

I imagine that you have seen some stragglers around your house then Doug. I know i have. You must be close to RR263 or 4.
Thats great you can help out. Hope to see you at training day whenever he holds it again. Thats sweet to have some Turkeys for the program, its been awhile.
