Old Enough To Hunt Now!
« on: April 09, 2012, 11:58:07 AM »
Just was wondering if any other members have kids that turned 12 for this years hunting season?

Im pretty excited as my oldest turned 12 in Dec. and will be hunting hard core. He did get out cougar hunting with a tag in his pocket but with the warm weather the hunting didnt work out for him but he had fun.
Now with bears starting to come out he is gung ho about that and has been shooting his bow hoping to get a spot and stalk bear with it.
We have a few hunts planned and he has his sights set pretty high. As he wants to try and get a big elk we saw last fall with his bow and we will be hitting the mountains hard looking for a sheep, with him asking if we could try and get a broomed ram like my step Dads(its 182 so he may lower that once hunting lol).
As for deer hunting, well he has seen many huge deer and im sure will holding out for a bit at the start of the season but we will see how many bucks tempt him before he pulls the trigger!
Another hunt that should be fun is for moose. Im a priority 10 so should get my prarie moose tag and him and I will partner up and see if we cant arrow a tank.
Then its cat season! Mybe this will be his year!

Looking to be an exciting fall!!!

With that I have a 10yr old that figures the rules are BS that he cant hunt. He says he shoots as good as way older kids and many adults and knows how to hunt so why cant he. Tough to tell him just becuase someone made that age rule because he has seen some of the retards that hold a license and really im not sure that age should be the deciding factor. Anyways thats for another topic!

Bring on hunting season!!!

I hunt sheep to see over the next mountain not to measure the next trophy!

Yep, my daughter turns 12 in July.  She's totally pumped for this season, already been bugging me for a couple months about when the draws come out lol.   She did her Hunter's Ed. last fall online, I gave a rifle for Christmas so she's all ready to go.  I've been taking her with me since she was old enough to walk (actually a little before).  She's been in on a few deer kills, and she was with me when I got my elk last fall.   Had her out in the mountains looking for sheep a couple times too.  She's got it in her blood for sure.  I'm really looking forward to this season as well because taking her out with actually being able to hunt, and hopefully get her first kill, will add a whole new element to it for me.

Darcy don't forget the Junior Pheasant Hunt we will get Junior into this year. Junior -Junior  should be able to tag along for the fun and maybe pack some of Big Brothers birds for him.

It's a great time being there watching the Young Hunters getting an introduction to a Safe & successful Hunt along with shooting Clays and learning the cleaning process and them observing how different Bird Dogs work.

My son is now 35 years old but...

I remember when he turned 12 in august years ago..lol

He could only hunt small game such as chickens and snowshoes.

He had a blast that year and so did I... ;D

Fast forward 2 years later and he was legal to hunt big game....short story..

Danged if he didn't shoot a (small) bull moose his first year out... ;D

He was so happy and so was I.. ;D

My grandson is 4 in December....I hope that I'm still around when he gets his first moose.. ;)

Some of the first hunts and the first kills I had with my 3 boys are with out a doubt the highlights of my hunting experiences. I can recall each kill and hunt down to the last detail. They truly are the best of times Darcy, cherish each moment because its gone in a flash.  Best of luck to the new hunter this fall I can't wait to see his kills.

Well, my daughter still has 10 years to go before she is legal, but i can already see it coming through in her. She calls out big game species when she sees them on wild tv, looks through her toy binos when we are driving and tells me the coyotes are hiding, and looks at me with a grin and says 'shot em daddy' after a kill shot on wild tv. ;D
