« on: January 29, 2016, 08:13:50 PM »
Well I off to the bush tomorrow to, well be in the bush. Just me and the old mutt. Going to look around for a few yotes, make a fire, cook a deer sausage and listen to Mother Earth. I'ma very fortunate guy, I can spend a lot of time out there. Kids are grown and my dear wife of 30 years is a sweetheart and lets me explore at will. (sometimes comes with me!)life is good.

btw...Once I get 100% over this pneumonia I'll be heading out in the woods also.I've been spending way to much time on the couch and I need to fill my lungs with clean mountain air..

So what do you use for a coyote rifle?

Brno Fox Mod2 22 hornet, it's a bit light, but I love the gun. Set trigger with a 3x9. I have a 223 in a TC but right now it's has the 7mm08 barrel on it and I'm to lazy to change it, plus like I said love the little 22 h.

Well that right there is what it's all about. The word "boy" or in my case "girl" makes a man smile. My two sweethearts (19 and 23) can't make the trip tomorrow, a man can do no better in life then kids! And I'll try to do the picture thing, still trying to find my way around, not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to this new thing they call a computer.

We had a great day today. Weather was just right hardly any wind. Never got into enough fish early enough to have a fry in the woods so we sufficed with a few hot dogs. Bite came on late afternoon which saw us ice just over a dozen eyes and we were able to get our 4 fish limit. Hard thing was to get our 4 small enough they were all to big.

But it was great to get out with Sam and spend a day with him..

Fresh walleye for supper tomorrow night,, Grandkids are coming over papa will do a fish fry..

Right on Walleyes, sound like a great day, and nice to get a few fish with the family. My day was great also, not much moving around which seemed a bit funny. Saw to grouse  :) I snowshoed into a creek, then an open meadow that usually has a bit of activity, but the snow was three feet deep with no bottom so not many yotes going in there. Man it was hard going on shoes, I think I sank right to the bottom with every step. I 'm on the shoes a lot and I'm in ok shape, but after a few miles in that snow it made this old guy suck a bit of wind.  Enjoy your fish, and most important your family. Hope to share a few more adventure stores with you in the future.

Thx lever.

Sounds like you had a solid day out there. I have been tossing the idea around of snow shoes the last couple years. Form what I have read people say the old wood/ leather woven shoes are still the best. Any input on that.

I have both the modern style and the old style. The old schools shoes are quite, mine are larger for deeper snow ,and you can't beat anything wood for looks. The newer ones are light weight, have the cleats on them for slipper conditions, very durable, with a very good binding system, but noisy. I think you can get the cleats for the old style also, but I have never tried. If I had to get one pair for all around I think I would go for the new ones, just because of their versatility.

Good trip reports always good to get out there in the winter doldrums.  I would like to get into snow shoeing but haven't pulled the trigger on a pair yet.  They would be handy on those late season ice fishing trips after a big snow where the lakes become impassible by vehicle and even snow machine with the flood water/snow thickness etc.
