Trophy Hunting has to Go !
« on: February 14, 2017, 05:39:07 PM »
I searched my heart and soul but once again I couldn't find a soft
     spot for APOS !

You could see this coming ever since Cecil got knocked off !
Canada is largest exporter of Trophy Game .
The bad part is even I'm not a trophy Hunter today , I know
I can't cave on this , cause you know sooner or later it will
be save the Goose time .
As long as gun owners , hunters , all outdoor people are fragmented
Or represented by those pathetic F&G assoc. these BS protests will
          Continue .

If the meat is taken and used, then if a hunter wants to wait for a big old bull or buck knock your self out I say. But I have never supported killing an animal for horns or a show piece only (Trophy Hunting). I grew up on the farm and hunting wild game, we killed for meat and trapped for fur(used some of the meat for bait). Our family did guide meat hunters so I can't get after outfitters to much. But if the hunter didn't want the meat it went to our table or was given to those in need. I always worry when I talk about this because I am a big believer in letting a man hunt the way he wants, and it was pointed out to me one time that Trophy Hunting helps support many families that would not have much if it ended, but I just can get behind not using the animals meat.

What really fries my hash is the fact that there is no rebuttal
to this type of media circus .....you have to go a long way to
be more useless in the area of promoting rational regulation
In a more political atmosphere than hunting in 2017 ....than
AFGA .....I say if your hunting future is in the hands of these
reprobates   Than God help us .
Until the Canadian hunting community becomes more united
in a political front and becomes way less petty in their directions .
        We have no hope !

I am mostly a meat hunter, don't mind big whitetails though. The problem I have with this is it starts with trophy hunting, but they will never be satisfied, next they go after the meat hunters. I support hunting in any acceptable form.

Again I doubt anything like this will ever go through. The government makes too much money off of it boys. Especially when we get these commies out of power any conservative government will boot these guys out the door on their asses.

Sounds like an eco tourist pushing his own agenda.  Not exactly sure what he is after.  No way to legislate "Trophy hunting" in our neck of the woods without completely banning hunting or at a minimum completely screwing up our game herds.  I guess the push could be made to abolish the hunt for animals like bear/wolf/coyote etc. however that would be a slippery slope I reckon and not something any amount of people are going to stand for.

Imo, we really need a new group to represent us, like the NRA for example. A group that under their umbrella, covers all types of hunters, fishers and outdoor users. Then, like the NRA, the gov will take notice at the numbers and related votes. Once that happens, as a group, it can go to bat against all the negative press and push back against the antis who are already lobbying governments. Seems to me the NRA has swayed quite a few policies. Now it would take a bit to get a group like that going. Maybe province by province first, then national. But i really don't feel that our main "outdoor pursuit" groups really go to bat for us against the governments of the day.

And then there is the problem that our group would rather pick at each other instead of banding together to fight for the common good. We could be a force if we could get all the groups pushing forward and making our voting power heard to the ones who make policy.

I agree Sooner, I was a member of Canada's NFA up till last year, but didn't seem like they where doing much for gun owners or they didn't have enough members to make change. So I gave up my support. I'm  not sure how we will ever unite guns owners and sportsmen in Canada, maybe the passion is not in Canadian's blood as much as the Yank's. They live and die by their constitution and are proud of it. Our constitution is written on toilet paper and the Shinny Pony's dad wiped his ass with it.Take Alberta for example, seems there is way to many gun owners and sportsmen that disagree with each other, and we don't have a strong common bond to hold us together. Any kind of grass root gun lobby in this country is going to be tough, no one would have the will or desire to work that hard to unite a group, so divided.

I'm a trophy hunter and will not cave in to the anti's. Alberta has quality and quantity of big game, however I agree that APOS should not exist, or at least, have a very minute quantity of allocations.

I have no issue's with Trophy Hunting in general as long as the meet does not go to waste.  I think are biggest issue is that we spend more time picking at each other as sportsman and do not have a united front.  The anti's who I hate to say one positive thing about seems to have a common goal in mind which put's us hunters and gun owners at a disadvantage.  Until we become united I think we are in for trouble I sure hope hunting is still an option when my boy who just turned 6 today is of age.
