Who's Hunting What this year?
« on: September 01, 2022, 10:20:18 AM »
Back to the outdoors, what ya all chasing this year?

My son & I pulled our high point MD buck draws and are cashing in on an opportunity to stay at a cousins farm in Coaldale and be guided by her hubby in wmu 108. He knows some farmers and ranchers. This is a draw I was hoping to do with my dad about 10 yrs back but he had a bypass the year prior and no matter what I said, he did not want to travel far, so I waited for my son to catch up in points. Hoping Murphy don't follow me like he always does as there is some potential for nice bucks to be had. I'm going to be using dads rifle and hope to finally put a nice buck on the wall.

You may recall I posted a few years back of a big moose my son got when he was 19. That year we had lots of 50 plus inchers on cam and seen on the hoof with the bow. He got his in Nov. Well the next year, I had the draw at the same property east of Elk Island and never even seen a bull in Nov. Had a couple encounters but too far out when I had a bow in hand(murphy).

So this year with a P3, I put a hail Mary in for that zone again figuring I am at least building a point. Well, surprise surprise, I got drawn. So been flinging arrows trying to get ready, the trails were cleared and cut last weekend. Cam's are out. Not much has been seen this summer on my friends cams but those bulls come there every fall in the rut, so fingers crossed the cams will start giving up the secrets of what's walking around. In recent years, elk have moved in(an escaped mini herd from Blackfoot) and a few nice bulls have been seen on his cameras in years past, so a general bow elk tag will be in hand too.

Excited to see what these two primo draws will produce. Hope Murphy is sitting on a beach somewhere.

Good luck to all

So dads rifle got some new bling today :). I will be using it in his memory to hopefully fill 2 draw tags this year. Stay away Murphy. Out with the 40 yr old Leupold and in with a new Zeiss 3. That being said, that Leupold has been bounced around jeeps, trucks and argos for that time and it never had to be resighted because it lost its zero. Only to up the distance. Been a great scope. My older eyes don't look so good through that old scope.

Yesterday I picked up a new set of Vortex Diamondback 10x42 binos. I'm excited to hunt with the new optics.
