Do you plan on shooting game with your handgun or for defense?
Sorry I don't ice fish or hunt rabbits, but I did stay at a Holliday in express last night.

where abouts in Texas are y'all looking to come to?  do you already have a hunt booked?  I have gotten some pretty good support from this site regarding coming up to hunt in Alberta, would be more than happy to answer any and every question you guys may have about coming down here.

At this point we are not sure looking to go with 4 to 5 guys.

Getting on a large ranch with the run of the place nothing fancy, meals we can cook our self’s if need be.

Hog hunting would be the main target but so would Yotes and Bobcat.  Any suggestions would be help full.

Some of us are petrified of snakes is there a time of year when they are sleeping ?

thanks

I was 10 feet down in an old water box in BC it had wooden sides for support.  I checked it out before I went down and did not see anything.  The snakes waited till I was at the bottom before they came out about 10 garder snakes falling at my feet slithering around.  Of course my imagination took over at that point.

Sorry for the long delay in response.

Well if you after pigs you can pretty much go anywhere in the state... we are absolutely overrun with them.  one of the guys who supports my forum runs an outfit called DoubleDrop Hunts and they pretty much have their hands in everything your looking for.  They are located in Central Texas and run a year around operation.  The guy you will be contacting there is named Ryan, hes a pretty good guy.

You could also look into the King Ranch, they run alot of pig/javelina hunts outside of deer season at reasonable prices.  They are located in South Texas along the coast about 5 hours south of Houston.

As far as snakes go... well, some times are better than others but we dont ever fully get rid of them.  Texas temps are so mild and unpredicatable that they could be 6 feet deep one day and sunning the next.  The winter months your chance of an encounter goes way down...   Hogs and predators are plentiful statewide, but the two areas i just described you would be very likely to atleast see some Rattlesnakes.

I booked a hunt for October with my son and myself for deer and hogs (actually the hogs are free and we can shoot unlimited).  We are going west of Austin and should be a great hunt.  It is going to be a blast and a great father/son get away weekend.  My son is 10 and definitely ready to hunt but is unable to because its 12 before hunting in Alberta.  Sadly, its cheaper to take him to Texas to hunt as a 10 year old than it is to take him to BC where he can hunt as a 10 year old.
