I have been following this trial as well and believe the right verdict was handed down.  Whether Stanley intentionally fired that shot or not the jury obviously didn't find beyond a reasonable doubt that it was his intent to kill.  Folks in the area had problems in the past with troublemakers, and whether that happened to sway the jury behind closed doors will never be known.

One important thing to keep in mind here is this isn't a case where Gerald Stanley defended his property with deadly force and got acquitted of murder, it's that he made a case (whether truthful or not) that he didn't intend to kill in a very explosive situation and got acquitted.

I think we all know the "flat tire" story was bogus from the beginning.  Maybe someone can help me out here but I haven't found anything where they investigated if the vehicle Boushie was in had a spare?  Was there actually a flat tire on the vehicle?  I'd imagine someone looked into that but I haven't found anything reported.  Being hammered with a gun in the vehicle suggests these guys were up to no good no?

In the end my guess is it's one of those situations where a lot of frustrations boiled up from a history of dealing with this shit and somebody eventually got killed.  Is it unfortunate that a young man lost his life? Yes it is.  On the other hand those kids were more than likely out to cause trouble and they assumed they'd all live at the end of the day and carry on.  They shouldn't have assumed that.  There are real consequences, especially if you cross the wrong person who may or may not be in complete control of his firearm.

A spike in rural crime is occuring in our province, and I wouldn't be surprised if a similar case happens sooner than later.  I have no ill feelings towards the RCMP but it's become apparent that they are ill equipped to deal with this stuff in a timely matter.  When you leave people to defend themselves, well...

And if that's what the laws says then so be it. In Canada we have no such law but we do have the right to pretect ourselves. I have to say I was surprised by this verdict I honestly thought he would be found guilty for manslaughter. Like I said personally I don't think any procession is worth someone's life and I do feel for this persons family, I do.  But again,, stay out of trouble and don't steal it's pretty simple really. This Mr Stanely didn't go out looking to kill someone they came into his space looking for trouble and they found it.

There is an article out with more of what went on, I believe CTV had it. It has come to light that indeed the flat tire storey was a lie. They stold the SUV they were driving at the time from a neighbour of Stanley's I'm sure he recognized the vehicle when it came into his yard as his neighbours. They tried to steal his quad, which just shows the nerve and lack of fear these people have to come into a yard in broad daylight and attempt a theft. In the process Stanley came out and fired warning shots as the thieves went to leave they rammed into his wife's vehicle in the yard. This was a very hectic scene with a lot of action going on. It's not like these poor little kids came into this mans yard looking for help and got shot in innocence. They were violent thieves looking for trouble.

An interesting law case.

That should make for legal precedent in future cases.

Does anyone know if the Carmen Willis case was brought up at the trial?

Further legal precedent.

Walleyes posted above just as I was posting my reply. Thanks.

Let us watch how this case is handled by the media in the following days.

I was surprised as well at the verdict, I believe they got it right but nonetheless surprised.

And here comes the black heart part of me, I was relieved.  I doubt Stanley asked for any of this.  A young man lost his life being no where near where he should have , no use taking another.

As for Trudeau, well what an irresponsible comment to make.  You'd think for the sake of "peoplekind" he'd learn just to keep that darn mouth shut.  There is some sort of disconnect between mind and mouth going on there.

Instead of doing what a Priminster should do he is feeding the fire on racism and as such is creating more racism. This trial should have never been about race and I don't believe it ever was, not for the people holding the trial. It was only about race for those trying to use race an an angle and as such making it a racist issue. All these politicians are doing is feeding the fire. Trudeau should be putting the blame square on those that it belongs to and that is the elders and leaders of these people.

It never ceases to amaze me how loved and cared for these victims are after something happens to them. Where was all the love and care and attention for this person when they were alive and carrying on life.

Trudeau's comments are completely off the mark and inappropriate as usual bordering on obstruction of justice; likely to be an appeal and the PM has already given his verdict.
He is feeding the fire like Walleye's and Ol_JR pointed out.

Rural theft and crime will continue to thrive around reserves.  Nothing will ever change in this country.  Sad.

Not to be offensive, but, though there be a lot of persons who are native and live solid, constructive lives. The "native culture" seems to be tied closely to the Drug and Alcohol culture. Therefore we will always have high crime around these areas until the tribe themselves can find a solution. Throwing money at it, is not the solution.  But maybe by not giving more money would help the most.

Completely agree.  Having a Prime Minister that keeps crying and making excuses for them certainly isn't helping.

Mr. Trudeau has been called a lot of nasty names over the past few months.

I guess we can now add the term "race baiter" to his list of names.

That would follow from a National Post description of Trudeau as a "himbo".  " A Kim Kardashian." "All style, no substance, as shallow as a puddle". (from the NP article regarding NEP 2).

Devide and conquer boys it's and old strategy. Same this is going to happen here as happened down in the US. They will push to far and people will retaliate with an extremist.

The best thing happening in this country is Jagmeet and Justine, they will push so far left and drag the idiots with them leaving the Cons to come in and pick up the remainder. Justin has taken the Liberals to far left and is using up the Dippers votes, anybody center or just slightly right of center can't stand him, it's to much. It's a perfect storm if you ask me.
