Glad he got out ok, sometimes a line looks a lot better than it is.  Or sometimes a guy just ignores that responsible part of the brain lol.

Had my share of stucks over the years, favourite and potentially worst is getting the Grandpas truck stuck up north of Assumption on the way to a fishing hole.  Had to leave the old boy at the truck and march back up to the road where luckily a couple guys coming back from Zama picked me up.  They wanted to bring me back to High Level to get help but I said I couldn't leave the old guy that long so they let me off at the entrance to Assumption and wished me luck.

I'm walking up to the bridge going into town and there's a man and a woman shouting down at the creek.  I look down into the creek and there's a guy with his jeans hiked up wading around looking for something.

One of them finally clues in that someone else is there, turns to me and goes " Holy Shit what do we have here?"

I'm thinking "here we go" but without missing a beat the guy opens up a pack of smokes as cheery as can be and says "hey want one?"

"No I'm fine, thanks, but what's that guy doin down in the creek?"

Guy goes "He dropped his smokes, he's trying to find them."  Kinda chuckle a bit and ask where I might go to get some help with a stuck truck.  They point me to a shop down the road and I carry on.

I show up to the shop and a couple guys are there working, I relay the situation and ask if they'd be willing to help.  They say they would for sure but have to phone the boss first.
They ring the boss up on the shop speaker phone and ask him if they can help get a guy unstuck.

The boss right away blurts out "No way we are not a tow service, sorry but we don't do that"  There is an awkward silence for a bit, I'm wondering what the heck I'm gonna do now.  The guys are just kinda lookin at the floor, I know they'd like to help but, well, bosses orders.

Finally the silence breaks and bossman asks, "Who is it?"

Now luckily Grandpa was fairly well know for his business dealings in the north country.  I said my Grandpas name and luckily the bossman loosened up a bit.

"Well you guys better go pull him out!"

We pile in a 4x4 and head back to meet Grandpa, the guys stop well short of the truck knowing what an idiot I was to even attempt to go where I did.  We meet up with Grandpa and he immediately states it's not even worth trying without another truck for backup.  We agree to leave me at the truck and the ol boy hops in the truck and they head back for another.

When they show up we get set up and sure as shit within less than a minute the first truck is stuck, but with the extra truck and a little vehicular abuse it's a matter of minutes and we are out.  They guys even lead us down to where we want to fish.  Grandpa throws more than a few sheckles their way in appreciation and we go on our separate ways.

Honestly thinking back I can't thank those guys enough, considering where we were that could have been really bad if no one was willing to help.

The rest of the day we fished and with the river being up a bit and muddy it wasn't the gangbusters fishing we were expecting, but we managed a few nice walleye and pike.

Grandpa loved his afternoon naps but this was the first time he took one on a fishing trip.  As much as I wanted to believe that the commotion of the morning was the culprit it was also the first time it hit me that age was taking it's toll on a man in his 70's.  Always look back on that trip with a bit of a smile and a bit of grief as it was one of the last times we got to fish together.
