Any Big Plans For The Season.
« on: December 20, 2012, 01:13:36 PM »
Just wondering if anybody has any big outings planned for the ice season. I hope to be able to get out and explore my new grounds a bit, may even head east into Sask and try a few small lakes. If anybody has any sugestions for some good lakes fairly close to Cold Lake area lets hear about em..

Don't forget the camera's boys..

Walleyes, many years ago we used to go into Saskatchewan south of Pierceland on hiway 21.  There is a lake called Deer Lake that had huge perch.  We caught some of the biggest perch I have ever seen in there.  Easily 2.5 pounders.  I often wonder what it is like there nowadays.  If you are in that area give it a try.

I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

Probably try Sylvan and Gull for some whites, maybe late Jan head up to Utikima for some walleyes. Wouldn't mind trying Cold Lake for some lakers this year too

I've been doing a ton of research on targeting burbs. I know our local lakes may be full of them but no one really fishs for them. I got a month and a half to get a system going before our local fish derby on the family day long wknd.

Not sure where your located darkwing but if your in the north country and have a chance hit Lac La Biche Lake. Its a burb paridise, if you are interested I could draw you up a map to get you going.

Thanks for the offer but I live almost straight West of you in Grande Cache. I'm plan on fishing Grande Cache and Victor lake. I watched a girl pull a burbot out of the ice just over 5lb's on a little trout jig last year at the end of the day. It was her first time out on the ice ever and I think she was unknowingly pounding it off the bottom. LOL, she ended up winning the prize for the biggest fish and the biggest ling, probably Over $2000 worth of prizes at our local derby.

I would be up for that Terry but Jan is going to be tough for me as the sister in law and her family are coming from Brazil for a month, mid to late Feb would be more viable for us maybe.

walleyes buddy if your looking cold lake area you have to stop and check out marie lake! its possibly my favorite lake to icefish just because not alot of people are willing to trek out there. great walleye fishing and whitefish. i hooked into a few 4lbers last year just right of the main campsite area about 100yards. the fishing there is genrally peaceful and besides alot of recreation during the summer is not pressured at all fishing wise. even the new alberta record burbot was pulled out of there a few years ago. if your looking for trout and stuff theres little bear lake also in the area that holds good rainbows and of coarse cole lake itself :P french bay i hear is rockin! same with straight ahead of the cold lake marina about 200 yards. for them big lakers you know.

i took my small cousin there 2 weeks ago just before Christmas and whats great about Marie is the tulibee are SOO easy to catch. so even if the whites arnt biting and you cant find the walleye just about any 5-10ft spot on the lake holds an abundance of the tiny guys. great for kids we must of caught 20.
