went fishing off the big island for a day.
out before sunrise. slow. zero bites for the first few hours....getting concerned....
then finally got a hit!!! took the fighting chair, fought for 2-3 mins and lost er...swore a LOT... captain saw it come up and estimated it was a 150lb class yellowfin....FFF*#&^#$!!!
...in the spot tho!! not 5 mins later another rod went!! after a good hard fight (damn tough fish!!!) we landed my first ever marlin!! about a 60 lber.
as we fought er we had two others slashing and chasing the other hooks but didn't hook em. crazy cool to see my fish jumping and two others slashing and chasing!!! nuts!!!!
after that things died again for an hour or so.
the captain then spotted a school on the surface. we switched to small gear and went after them. instantly hooked a skipjack tuna!!! thing screamed line out!! landed 1 or 2 each pass and lost several more. tough fish. wore you the hell out!!!
just as things were hot and heavy with the tuna, the captain yelled "marlin off the port bow!!!!"
we had just landed another skipjack, the first mate instantly hooked a huge bait hook throughout its lip and threw it back out and said "get in the chair!!!"
less than a minute later the main line was zinging sideways!!!
the captain was watching for the crows nest yelling to "wait and let him eat and run"...a minute later he yelled "kay set er"!!!
the first mate set the hook while the captain floored the engine to assist and the reel screamed!!!
i saw a monster launch it's entire body out of the water twice!!! biggest fish i have ever seen!!!
i started reeling and letting him run and reeling for what felt like hours.
a reel as big as my chest and me reeling with all my strength and i could barely move him.
he jumped many times and sounded and rushed the boat many times. between the captain chasing the fish down and keeping with it, and the first mate coaching, i finally got er to the boat about 30 mins later.
multiple gaffs later we hauled in my 220.5 lb, 10' blue marlin.
unreal beast. nothing like anything i've done.
turned out to be the last fish of the day as it was getting late in the afternoon.
so lucky to get er. unreal day. best ever,
got to take the skipjack home! feasted on ahi grade tuna for the next few days!!!

Congrats on the great day!  I love the kona coast, plan on buying a place down there and spend my winters there in retirement.  The Waikoloa beach area is my favorite.
