Bowfishing
« on: October 24, 2013, 09:18:02 AM »
Had some time on the weekend so decided to get out with the 10 year old to do a little bowfishing.  Around southern Alberta fall seems to be a good time to bowfish as the whitefish are spawning and can be concentrated in areas and also the canals are getting emptied and these fish can also be concentrated.  My son managed to get 6 suckers but was taking shots at hammer handles as well but no success (and for those of you that realize this against the rules, a salvage permit from Fish and Wildlife gives permission to harvest these fish from the canals.)  Anyway, with this great fall weather we are having, the fishing was great and we were constantly in action.  The only reason we had to stop was because my son eventually ran out of arrows from hitting rocks etc.

You bet.  originally I was giving him tips on shot angles through the water but eventually he was figuring it out and doing better than me anyway!!  LOL  And he could see the fish better as well.
