In the end I never spent a lot of time out for whitetail,, work at home kept me away. I have a bit of an update in the hunting section if your interested.

I am amazed at the lack of ice on Cold Lake so far, honestly there isn't even ice building up on the shores yet, a guy could launch a boat if he wanted to. I have been thinking of it a bit lol. I wonder what it would be like open water fishing in Dec when it's -20 outside,, be interesting. There certainly won't be any ice fishing in Dec or I doubt It will be very safe in Jan this year on the big lake. Which as far as I am concerned is awesome for the lake. Personally I would like to see the lake closed to angling from Nov - May long every year.

Well done Wildman.

I went to Kinky lake for an hour this afternoon but didn't even get a bite.

Ice was 6-7 inches but there was still open water around where the springs are.

hey guys. we were south of swan hills and there was 4-6" of ice.
bad flood water around the edges where the snow was deep. a bit of a mess getting on and off.
didn't see any fish super shallow. last year we were nailing the in 1-2' of water. it was nuts but that was a few week earlier in the year too.
found them in 5-8' and they were all depths in the column. lots coming in inches below the ice and slamming the hook, scaring the piss outta ya!!! fun stuff!!!  :P
