Buck lake Calhoun Bay
« on: May 13, 2016, 10:03:58 PM »
Wondering if anyone knows the water levels around the launches at Calhoun bay.  Really just curious if the water is a bunch lower than last year.

     Thanks!

Hit the lake today and just if anyone is curious the old concrete launches have been ripped out at Calhoun.  Water is a pretty shallow at the mouth but can't tell if the level is down or if it's just shallower because they quit dredging it.  Without going into a rant all I'm gonna say is what a waste.

wtf...you mean the boat launches in the creek? Why on earth would they do that?

We camped/fished out at Calhoun a few times.Last time being maybe 3 or 4 years ago and had a blast.

Yes we had to trim the motor up when heading out the creek to the lake but it was worth it and we always had fun.

Why they would rip out the launches I can't make a lot of sense out of.  Last year they were chained off but you could get around them pretty easy and launch a tinner off a trailer if someone hadn't cut the chains.  I phoned and asked the parks people why the chained the launches last year and was told that they didn't want to spend to keep dredging it and larger boats were getting stuck at the mouth and causing problems.  I was also told that I should just launch at another launch and cruise in to the campground from there.  Okay so what's stopping the guys with the big boats from doing that?
The launches aren't the problem it's their unwillingness to spend money to keep the place maintained.
