Ethel Lake Report
« on: January 02, 2014, 05:18:58 PM »
Sam and I hit Ethel Lake today, got up good and early and were on the lake just after sun up but all for nothing. We didn't make it 200 yards on the lake and hit some wicked bad over flow. Dropped the Duramax in hard. Spent the next 45 min shovelling it out. I was starting to get worried, the longer I rocked it back and forth the more she settled in and the water was getting deeper. Finally I got it cleaned out enough and made it out, I was starting to get quite concerned. So we headed back home and grabbed the doo and quad and headed back out. Were back on and fishing by 10:30 and fished a few spots until late afternoon. Pretty slow again, got three really nice jumbo's and one hammer handle. At least we had some horderves before supper lol..

Again the over flow was bad, there were a couple guys out with a little Nissan that made it out about a 1/2 mile, they stayed on an old track but just a warning access is very limited. There is only about 10" of good ice under the snow.

Good report, Walleyes.   :)
Not the first time that Duramax has been stuck and won't be the last.  I remember an evening last spring.....

I heard Ethel has some nice perch.  Are they hard to find or could a guy going there for the first time have a chance at catching a few.  Just wondering incase we're having a bad day laker fishing on Cold we could swing over to Ethel.

Yah I don't think they are too hard to find, I am by no means an authority on Ethel only been out there a couple times myself. Most people seem to stick along the east shore which is the shoreline you come on the lake. It seems to have the best depth. I have explored the west and south shores but they seem to be quite shallow. What I have caught on the lake are nice sized Perch,, not 2lber's or anything but decent fish. With some time, sunshine and good transportation I am sure a guy could get on them..

The biggest perch netted in the F&W FWIN test netting program was from Ethel Lake in 2007.
Length was 425 mm or 16.73 inches.  That is a whopper jumbo perch.
The nets did not show the average to be all that big but I guess you never know what you might pull out.

Hey walleyes how are the lakes up in your area for snow depth? To much for the quad? Or do I need the sled?

You can get around,, it's getting deeper by the day but still doable, for now lol..
