First Ice Outing of the Year
« on: December 23, 2015, 03:03:42 PM »
After getting all my gear out of storage and getting organized I was finally able to hit up a southern AB reservoir for my first outing.  There's not an abundance of big walleye over 10 pounds, but they are in there.  Most are anywhere from 2 to 7 pounds.  The day started off slow while I tried all depths from 17 to 24.  There is a distinct drop off from 12 feet to 17 feet in a stretch of about 10 feet.  The morning was slow which is weird because this place is what we call the "easy button" and is normally a daytime bite with the fish disappearing by 4.  The bite didn't really start until 2 and lasted until dark.  I lost the big fish of the day in the hole due to my own stupidity and not re-tieing after a couple pike even though I felt knicks in my line.  It was a solid 8 or 9 pounder.  The biggest one I got was a gorgeous golden one that pushed 5 pounds.  This fish looks like it came out of a boreal forest lake and not a southern reservoir.  All in all a great day with about 15 walleye landed and numerous pike.

This place is a tag lake. I have my tags for Newell and not this particular place.  It's a fun spot with a nice average size of fish.

wow nice collection of jewelry... then you post a pic with a walleye and a minnow and treble in its mouth, haha... I love it.  That's how it goes.  Looks all shiny and new, small fortune there.

Haha I'm like a crow...attracted to shiny things.  I use a dropper on a lot of my jigging spoons. Works great. The minnow with treble just kind of floats down while the spoon still does the attraction/aggressive fishing.
