Fisheries Access Restrictions
« on: April 17, 2014, 08:01:53 PM »
Did anyone read Neil Waughs article in Barry Mitchells fishing guide?  It appears the governments fisheries people are looking for solutions to increasing pressure on Alberta waterbodies.  One of the solutions brought up in the the article is restricting access to some of the more popular waters (i.e. Access Permit).  What is unclear to me is whether it is just the suggestion of one fisheries scientist used in the article or is this a real possibility being thrown around the table.  Thoughts?

I didn't read the article but "Access permit" sounds like they are thinking of making you pay for a permit to access the lake or whatever.
What the hell is wrong with the PC government anyway?  ::)

That would be AWFUL!!!!

That is what I love about Alberta and Canada in general.  Drive up to pretty much any lake and dump your boat in for the day free of charge.

Down here in California you have to pay at every single place I've ever been.  Some of the lakes are State Parks so you can buy a pass for all of them.  This pass is 150 for the park pass to get in and 100 bucks for the boat pass.  That is $250 a year for a pass that only gets you into the state run lakes ($18 dollars a day).  Then there is big bear lake it is $35 a day for a pass, $125 for the year.  I was recently at another Nacimiento lake and is was $21 a day.

I tell you it gets tough for some people to go fishing when you take into consideration entry fees and gas.  Sure it keeps the numbers down but then it becomes an elitist group fishing.  I wouldn't think it is fair that just because I have a few extra dollars to spend that I can get in while others can't.  Doesn't make any sense in a Socialist type country like Canada.

Just my 2 cents.
