I run a 2006, 20' Lund Fisherman. 175 ETec main, 9.9, 4'stroke Johnson kicker.

Great looking fish.

Sorry to High jack your thread here. Could I ask a couple more questions?

Does your boat have the high backend like on the sport angler series or the low back end like on the tyee and pro v?

I have an 1850 Tyee and was told that because of the low back end  I should never take it to the Ocean. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks and may the weather gods be kind to you on your trip

I went with my 16 foot spectrum... it's all possible but if the waves blow up you're out of luck.

No issues Glove.

My boat has the same hull as yours it would just be a bit longer is all. No problem fishing with these boats out here. They are wide enough that very few waves ever break over the back they are very buoyant boats. Yes you get the odd splash over the back but I have never had one actually make the inside of the boat. And the last couples days I have been out in 30 knot winds. I have fished offshore 15 miles in Ukee with ease you just have to watch the weather forecast is all and use your head. You can drown in a 30' troller out here of your stupid about it. Get it rigged up and that would be a fine boat to fish with out here trust me.

Still having some steady action, not hot ans heavy but we are getting our fish. 3 nice Chinook yesterday and 2 today. Dropped 2 beauties yesterday close to the boat and 4 today, those are hard to take. We don't fish all day either just until 11:30 - 12:00 at the latest so for the amount of time we put in out there we are super happy.

Couple pice from the last 2 days.

Well we rolled in home about 1:30 this morning, drove straight through from Sooke, 18hrs in total with the Ferry ride over. Now the big cleaning job, wash rinse the boat /gear and put away all the gear for the season.
Was another great trip once again Sooke made us work for our fish but we did get them. We were able to fill our quota for 4 adults on Chinook (16) and 10 nice big Pinks which is plenty for our 2 families. I think my son really enjoyed it big time, I have him hooked now he is already looking forward to next year. Never really got into anything to big this year 24# being the biggest and we did bring home a couple smaller ones in the 10# range. Generally we average a little bigger but still all nice fish. One thing we did do this year that will make consumption a little easier down the road is some of the larger fish we cut into 6 portions, vacuum sealed them individuals then put them in order in a larger vacuum seal bag and vacuum sealed them as a whole fish in order to be compliant with regulations. Going forward we will open a large bag and now have meal size portions available. To answer OL_JR question as to transportation I bring my own freezer along. As soon as my fish are caught we cut their throat and bleed them out in the fish tank, they are kept on cool sea water when in the boat through the live wells. Then once back on land first thing is we clean them then up to the room, vacuum sealed and into my own freezer which is cranked. They are from the sea to the vacuum sealer and froze in very short order. All top quality meat that lasts. When one spends the kind of money it takes to do these trips may as well take care of the product.
A couple highlights of the trip were of course getting the grandkids out on the ocean and getting them into a few pink salmon, and just having them experience the ocean. The boy and I landed a dandy double header the other day in the middle of all the boats a 15 & 22# fish. We tubbed out that day by 10:30 (4 Chinook) then went for pinks with light gear. I had my 9 weight fly rod out with a dummy flasher and just a spoon on it it and we smashed a 14# Chinook on it. What a blast that was landing a big Chinook on a 9 weight with 12# test mono line, we did it and released it back.

A few more pics from the trip.

Thanks for the post Walleyes.

I like your idea of the vacu-packing in smaller portions.

Is sea sickness any issue out in the swells?  All my salmon experiences have been river fishing.

It certainly can be for some people Axe I won't lie to you. If sea sickness is an issue for a person it will defiantly show up there. To make it worse you have days with fog so thick you can't see 100 yards so you can't see shore nor anything some times add that to some wave action on top of some large swells it can be tough for people. I don't have an issue with it nor my son but some do. My daughter inlaw spends a lot of time on the water fishing and she couldn't take it one day out there in the fog it really got to her after a bout 5 hrs we had to head in.

Good job and great pics walleyes. :)

Only salmon I ever caught was a six pound coho in lake Erie.

It tasted like it was caught in an oilsands taillings pond.  :(

Well it was a tailings pond for Detroit sewage back in the 70's. lol

But rumour has it that the invasion of zebra muzzles cleaned it up some.

Haven't fished there in many many years but I have fond memories of  catching bass, catfish and many other species. ;)

Hey Sonny:

What rivers do the folks down east fish for steelhead?

And what lakes do the steelhead come out of?

I notice on TV that  longer rods are used than for B.C. fish.

Thanks. :)

We mostly fished the Lucknow river which flows into Lake Huron.

Also fished the South Hampton river just a little farther north.

When I get home I'll see if I can find and old pic.
