Gettin Ready.
« on: May 04, 2017, 03:29:07 PM »
Not sure if there will be water to hit Monday but getting the equipment ready none the less.

Got the old Lund cleaned and ready, this is my Sask lake boat. Rather than beating my big boat up on those roads and some of the smaller lakes don't have much for ramps I'll use this boat. Some may recall a couple years back I gutted and rebuilt this boat. My oldest son used it since then but he recently bought himself a new boat so I took back possession of it. Gave it a good cleaning, pulled the carb, stripped it down and gave it a good clean, and reset it. Put in new water pump, drained and replaced leg oil, new hub bearings and tail lights on trailer. She's ready for the water.

Changed leg oils in both engines on the big boat, new fuel filters, new plugs and engine oil (4stroke) in the trolling motor. I also installed an electronic trolling control on the trolling motor, this I am looking forward to. You can still use the manual throttle but also the electronic for fine tuning. As some may know it's a real bugger to get one set just right with cable linkage, this system is sweet. Auto full throttle, idle switch for when you fight a fish and hit run it will automatically return to last throttle setting. Wasn't a cheap unit but it'll be worth it. Had to do a little bit of mods to make it fit and work fully smoothly, I will be writing a letter to the manufacturer with some suggestions. Over all it was ready to go in but I did have to tweak a couple things. Also had to build a bracket for it to mount it. They are made on a long cable to use remotely if you want but I don't want cables laying around to trip over and tangle in so I hard mounted the control.

That little Lund is a beauty Terry, spent many hours on Lesser Slave with my dad in a 14 foot aluminum and 9.9, no electronics, and we always brought supper home.

Thx boys.

W101 those are guide posts. This boat was my fathers he bought it when he retired back in 84' he built those guides and put them on. There not really needed for a boat this size but its something left on the boat from when he had it so, lol I've just leaving them on.

The boat is an early run of the Pike series, it's a 16' boat. Unreal the amount of water that tub has churned. Like I said my father bought it when he retired and he lived in that thing from home lakes to the west coast. He passed away in 95' and I took it then. The wood all gave out later on and I gutted and rebuilt it in about 04' I believe. The rivets and tin are as solid as the day she was built, a good old boat. I'm glad to have it back rather than having my son sell it, we thought about it but my wife wouldn't have us selling it outside the family so it's going to wrk out fine. Like I said some of those roads into Sask are pretty rough I'm scared that I'll rip the transom off my big boat bouncing it down those roads so this boat will be awesome for that.

That's 3 Lunds I have in my yard now. I have the little 12' with the 9.9 Merc for small lakes and in behind the quads for the back woods lakes and these two, set up for what ever now.

Awesome boats Walleyes, I'm a jealous man.  Hope to do the same kinda thing and hold on to my tinner but add a bigger boat in the next few years.  I drool over those Fishermans, exactly what I'd like for the family with the extra high sides and width.
Love the smaller boats for towing and being able to launch them pretty much anywhere but there's been to many days where the wind is blowing me off and the big boats are just heading out lol.  Was that boat packaged with the Evinrudes or did you have to special order?  Seems nowadays everything except the Alumacraft have the Mercs on them from the factory.  I'm very partial to the Evinrudes, we have an 85 tiller that's been absolutely awesome and growing up it seemed like the guys with Mercury's were always workin on their motors at the dock.  Maybe they are all good motors nowadays but that little stuff sticks with a guy through the years.
Took the motor down to a boat mechanic last year for a complete go through and still like new as far as he was concerned  :).
How do you like the Yamaha on the smaller boat and what year is it?

Thx OL_JR. Yes I do enjoy the Fisherman it's too bad Lund quit making it in this style, you have to go to a 1950 Tyee to get the same hull as this boat today. It changes well from family boat to fishing vesel it doesn't get used as a family boat much these days but it's there if ever we do want it. Yes the package was a special order with the ETecs and Johnson kicker. I love that engine very unique engines those ETecs, in 10 seasons not a whimper not a miss not a couph out of it, absolutely flawless. They are starting to really catch on out there, I always base engine popularity from what I see out on the west coast and in the last 2 years ETecs are really starting to catch on. Mercy and Yammy were the big players out there for years and still are but Evenrude is picking up steam. Really I don't think one can go wrong with any of the big names, Merc, Yammy, Sazuki all good machines. If you've been around as long as any of them you can't be junk. Save your pennies you'll get a gooder some day. If all goes well in the next 2 to 3 years I may be looking to sell this one and move on to a more west coast specific boat, looking at stuff in the 24' - 26' range, this one will be up on the market. It will be a few years old but this boat shows near new, it's my baby and gets treated very well, it  gets used but never abused and always serviced. Who knows maybe we'll make a deal. I know this, you'll pay double for a new one for what I'll sell this one for, new the way I have this boat rigged is over 80 grand easy.

Keep me in mind for sure Walleyes, as much research as I've done I'm not sure your boat would be in my budget or not but ya never know.  One thing I know is that you wouldn't have any problem selling it.  You are exactly right that to get the same boat new you would have to look at something in the Tyee line and they are friggin pricey pricey.
I damn near pulled the trigger on a big boat when the dollar was at par and I regret not doing it now.  What they want for a new Lund now is ridiculous along with any boat for that matter.  Anything even in the 17-18 foot range with some width your looking at 40g's face price at least and that's for boats like the Rebels and Impacts which aren't like a Fisherman.  Haven't done any negotiating though recently.  Kinda curious what kinda movement a guy can expect at the dealership?  If there isn't a lot of movement nowadays it seems like a no brainer to go used.
