Ice thickness reports
« on: December 09, 2012, 10:51:25 AM »
We have had some pretty cold days in November/December, anyone getting out on the lakes would be nice to know what ice thicknesses are like and if guys are walking/quadding/driving on certain lakes. I would really like to try Cold Lake this year for lakers any reports from up there would be great. I know from Ice Shanty guys been out on moose lake there's about 10" solid but that was last week already.

I have only been out once so far this season and that was on Nov.25 at Kinky lake west of Hinton.

The ice was around 7 inches then but I'm sure it's close to a foot now.

Hopefully I'll get out a few times around Christmas.

8" of ice on Lesser Slave at the narrows, I know a guy that took his shack out already and is driving his pickup out there, which I think is a bit foolish as the narrows is notorious for gas pockets and thermal currents, even into Jan and Feb.

Solid 18" on most lakes in the Lac La Biche aerea,, so I've been told. They have been driving accross LLB Lake from the mission to Poplar Point for over 2 weeks now. Bro in law was out in front of his place a couple nights (LLB Lake) ago and said there is 18"..

Been there, done that...hard on the nerves. Goldeye Lake near Nordegg with a brand new truck, saved it...barely.
