Lots of shacks left on lakes
« on: May 09, 2011, 01:22:27 PM »
I see lot's of shacks were abandoned this year by guys who didn't get them off, probably because of the snow. I am betting there is going to start being some tougher restrictions on shacks on Alberta lakes coming down the pipe probably permanent labeling of the shack owners. I think anyone who has the energy to get their shack out on the lake should have the same enthusiasm to get it off, by any means possible or maybe they need to start making guys take their shacks off earlier.

Story on it here http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/story/2011/04/15/calgary-alberta-ice-fishing-huts.html

I agree there will probably some sort of registration fee to put a shack on the lakes coming soon.

They need to look at how things are done in Minnesota and pattern their rules like they do.  Not only with owner contact information, but removal dates, and reflective markings on them as well so they can be seen in the dark for sledders and other people on the ice in the dark.

manitoba  makes you have them off with lots of time left .   if not off they are burned by the local fire dept  after a busting down the door look for any signs of who owned it  to fine and recover cost of burning

i totally agree i have a big shack 12x20 and i take it off early. i have a way to get mine off. i take mine off in the first part of march and i agree that people should be fined and people should have there names on it.  i hope that they do crack down i have been on slave lake ice fishing for years and every year there are people that don't take care of there shack or make one that is to big and they don't have the means to take it off. if you love to ice fish then you would think that you would do everything not to screw it up!!

It's the same ole, same ole, a few bad apples ruin it for the rest. When the government makes us register our shacks and charge a fee for doing so, guess who will be the first ones to boowhoo.
