New to kayak fishing - exploring Alberta Lakes
« on: May 28, 2019, 08:24:14 AM »
My son and I recently bought a couple of inexpensive sit-in kayaks from Costco.  We want to spend some time together and also learn the basics of kayak fishing.  We decided to record our journey and have trips planned this year to Dalemead Lake, Eagle Lake, Burnstick Lake, Glenmore Reservoir, the Bow River, Barrier lake, and Lower Kananaskis to start.  Our first trip to Dalemead was pretty successful although our GoPro skills and fish handling techniques need some improvement:

Thanks and looking forward to more.

Thanks for the video!  Good luck with the channel start.  Kayak fishing is fun... besides the paddling for me, haha.  Used to love fishing on the ocean in my kayak.

Keep em coming!

That is an excellent presentation.

How about approaching the Hobie and Jackson people to sponsor some tryout boat's for you? Fishing Kayak's filmed in Alberta waters. Fishing by Alberta fisherman.

Bottom line. You guys have a nice show. Let us see you fishing with nice quality kayaks.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks Brandonkop and Greylynx.  Sponsorship would be fantastic, but I think we would need to grow a lot in popularity to make that happen!  For the time being we will continue to record our journey and evolve it a little.  Even having just a few people who enjoy it is fantastic.

I know Glenmore Sailboats in Calgary has "Try days" for Hobies on Strathmore.  How about an evaluation by you two? I am not too impressed with the 2019 Hobie Outback because of it's lower profile.

A brand new Jackson shop opened up on Calgary Trail in Edmonton a couple of months ago. The owner told be he is going to have a tryout day. The Jackson shop owner is a hardcore Walleye, Pike, Perch fisherman who likes that shallow water and big boulder structure fishing. Who would of thought Kayaks for Walleye?

Addendum: The owner of the shop also uses his boat for waterfowl hunting.  Apparently he can get into places that you can't with a tin boat, and he can sneak out and get his shot game without a dog. Mind you, the Kayak is Dog friendly.

I will keep that in mind.  As for Walleye, we are targeting them this weekend and we think we have a good location.  With any luck we will have a video ready early next week.

Good stuff guys
I fished out of a canadian tire special kayak for a couple years, lakes and rivers. It got stolen from my camp site unfortunately.
They are very versatile and amazing how stable they are once you get the hang of it.
