NSR - Hope to see you - Fishing or Panning

HI ALL!
Looks like I can afford to get a license this year! YAY!
We will be out by Big Island in Edmonton as many weekends as we can get, starting May Long Weekend, unless night weather gets really nice so water doesn't freeze in trailer. Gas prices too high to go farther. Hubby is gold panner, so he can show you the ropes on that - you can get info from him at albertagold@shaw.ca. When you're out there, look for a tent trailer or a big black canopy on the shore. Watch out for furry critters on leads (we have cats that we take camping with us).
I would still like a fishing mentor to help me sort my tackle box - have lots but not sure what is good and what isn't. Would like to cut down on the weight load by getting rid of useless tackle.
Hope to see you.

Well, I'm not sure exactly where this big island in Edmonton is that you speak of, but I fish the NSR quite a lot and can probably help get you and your gear sorted out for river fishin'

It's across the river from Riverside Golf Course. Big Island is a park area on the west side of the city. It was the major camping area of the early 1900s. We are able to access it through a private road. PM or email me at extremefisherwoman@gmail.com if you are coming out and we can let the landowner know.
it still looks like May Long weekend before we can get out there.
It will be nice to find out if my mishmash is good or not! Thank you in advance for any help.
See ya!

Sounds like you're talking about the island that can be seen just upstream of the Capilano bridge?

No - it's on the far west side of the city, just downstream across the river from Windermere Golf Course and I had the wrong name for the other golf course, it's River Ridge Golf Course.
We haven't gone there yet this year, so don't know what road conditions are like. When we are sure its good to go, we will confirm whether or not we will be there May LWE.

We went down to Big Island today - the road is good as long as we don't get any rain this week. We leave Friday night and are incommunicado for the weekend. If you want to come down, please let me know by Thursday so I can get directions and a map to you. The landowner does not want too many people to go down there across his land, so I'm not giving more explicit directions in open forum.
It looks like its going to be an ok weekend, would have liked it a little warmer than 15, but the river is not too high or cold right now. Hoping the area we are in is good for the fish.
Later!

I finally see the spot you're talking about...it's not an island at all!
As it stands it appears as though you're already gone for the weekend and it looks like I'm tied up as well, otherwise I would have come out for a day at least to help you get your fish on in the NSR!
Ah well, there's all summer for that!

Maybe back in the early 1900 when the area was named it was an island, before the dams went up. On Google Map, you can see where the water could have looped around to make it an island.
Got back Monday evening, only went fishing Sunday and all I got was heatstroke. I know that I'm doing something wrong - I don't know what lure to use when. I really need help. Trying to teach myself doesn't seem to be working.
This weekend we're home, so maybe next weekend we'll try again. I told hubby camping every second weekend was enough for me, every weekend is too much.
Hope your long weekend was good.

If I can ever seem to get my life sorted out then we'll get your fishing sorted out as well!
