Prince Rupert 2015
« on: July 14, 2015, 01:19:16 PM »
Made our annual pilgrimage out to Prince Rupert for 3 days of salmon and halibut fishing. We leave the harbour at supper time and get back 3 days later at supper time. We stay 3 nights on a 55 foot houseboat tied to a dock in a quiet little cove on the north end of Dundas Island. This year saw slower hali fishing mostly because we couldn't get out to the good spots due to 20-30 naut winds everyday but we still got 6 of the 8 we were allowed to bring home, all between 20 and 50 pounds. Caught well over 100 salmon, all coho and chinooks. The bigger coho already showed up with lots in the 10 to 15 pound range. Chinooks were fairly plentiful to, we had 8 or 10 between 25 and 30 pounds, none over 30. We kept 13 chinooks between 15 and 25 pounds and 19 coho between 9 and 14 pounds. I cant say enough about our charter, he is a first class operation. Is truly concerned about his fishery and doesn't have the "kill everything we catch" attitude that so many of those guys out there have. He prefers you only take what you will eat and not to take the bigger ones. Hes the kind of guy that if the fish is going back in the water and you don't want a picture of it, it doesn't even come out of the water. If you are wanting a picture your camera has to be ready because hes only taking it out for 30 seconds max. I highly recommend using Sunset Charters out of Prince Rupert. We have used him for two years now and already booked for next year.  Here are my first two attempts ever at using gopro cameras and editing/putting together videos.

I'm really happy I actually used them finally (owned one for 1.5 years without using).  I will be using them more in the future for sure. The next time may be for lakers on cold in a couple weeks.

Yah they look like fun..

Will be fun doing up some videos.. Will definitely use different music lol,, I'm not quite such an angry person lol.. I have always felt that the outdoors suits a more relaxed sound,, to me screaming at the top of your lungs and pissed off just doesn't suit the outdoors lol,, but each to his own I do enjoy the scenery of the videos,, just turn the music off..

Last week the lakers were on fire,, the wife and I were out and honestly I had a hard time to run two rods. In a couple hours I am sure we boated over 20 fish with more than one double header. Usual depths,, one rod at 40 - 50 and one at 70 - 90 bait was good and so was spoons.. Good luck..

Thats awesome Mike.  What did you put the goPro on?  attached to a stick?  I am in the same boat as you, got one last year and really havent used yet.  Gotta find ways to start using it.

The videos with the view of the entire deck of the boat was the gopro handle bar mount that I put on the railing on the fly bridge of the boat.  The rest of the video was shot using a stick that's extendable.  Sort of a selfie stick for gopros.
