Realistic Golden Stonefly Nymph
« on: July 28, 2011, 07:45:14 AM »
I love tying new patterns --often will check out several patterns and amalgamate them for a tie! This is how this stonefly nymph came about. It is tied with .5mm foam that is coloured with permanent markers. The legs are biots that have had thin wire glued to the curved side and then head cemented on both sides, so they are positionable. The head & tail fibres are 2 to 3 micro fibets glued together with head cement. It was a pain staking and slow fly to tie, but the result was awesome! The pictured fly is my third attempt at this particular 'pattern'!

Thats one of the most unique flys I have ever seen,,very realistic. I am not sure how it would hold up when hooked up to a 4# bow but its pretty fancy looking.

The tie was a challenge I set for myself. It is weighted and has several coats of head cement overall parts except the dubbing. If it caught one fish it would be worth the effort, but I do realise there are much simpler Golden Stonefly Nymph patterns out there!

Great looking fly. I'd probably cry if I fished with it and lost it :'(

That is a work of art!  Put it in a shadowbox and get it framed on the wall!

Thanks guys! This one is in a shadow box as I entered it in a fly tying competition at our local fly club and I placed first in the Nymph category with it!
