Spring Fishin' Trip
« on: May 08, 2015, 05:31:37 PM »
We had started to plan another spring bear hunt but then decided since it's been about 15 yrs since we'd visited the beautiful province next door it was time to do some spring fishing.  So, we put the alum. johnboat in the truck, tossed in the wall tent and headed to BC for a week.
We checked out 10 different lakes, fished 8 of them.  Caught dozens of 10" rainbows and some smallmouth.

The snowpack was about halfway down the mountains so some of the higher lakes were pretty chilly, but made for feisty trout.  Froze every night so mornings and evenings were quite cool, but afternoons couldn't have been nicer.  We timed it right as we packed up camp thurs. and drove to sparwood, staying overnight there to break up the drive.  Woke to snow and drove home through a blizzard.  Think that was the first time we every packed up the tent when it was dry.

Saw lot's of healthy looking deer, elk, sheep, turkey, grouse, and one moose.  Fun trip.  Here's a couple pics:

Wow,, some nice pics Bruce. Did you fry up any small mouth I bet they would be tasty out of that cold water.

Looks like a lot of fun thanks for sharing and thanks for the pics.  Like how you rigged that big tarp shelter in front of the wall tent, going to have to incorporate that into my set up for sure.

Thanks guys, it was a great trip.  Last day we kept three bass about the size of the one wife's holding;  just scaled them, salt and pepper, into a frypan with butter, skin nice and crispy, then some fresh lemon.  They tasted wonderful.
BC has so many lakes, rivers and streams I suspect there'd be good fishing wherever you went.  While we saw turkey and heard gobble's in the early morning every place we went also had turkey hunters, who were having various success.  Best one was a fellow who was out fishing, heard a turkey, went home, changed clothes, took his boat across the lake, got his turkey, then trolled on the way back and caught a big trout!

Shrubs, watch garage sales for tent poles.  We tried just tying the peak to a tree then sides roped to stakes but it flaps in the wind too much.  With an end peak pole and then one on each far corner it works much better.
