being in the area we hit sylvan friday late.
got to the lake late afternoon.
saw a truck leaving drive off the established path to burn off the lake and promptly break through 2-3" of ice and get stuck in BAD ruts. the guy was instantly hung up, got out, stepped in one of the ruts and found himself up to the knee in water!!!!! FRIKKIN SCARY!!!! tried to pull him out and sunk in ourselves……were able to work our vehicle back out. drove around to the other side of this scary-assed sink hole the guy was stunk in. was able to pull him out pretty easy in the direction he went in from…..LESSON = YOU GOING TO SYLVAN, STAY ON THE ESTABLISHED TRACKS!!!!!!!
ANYWAYS……. set up in 3-4 feet of water and instantly hooked and landed a FAT 2-3 lb walleye. cool! moved a little deeper and instantly found whitefish!!!!! first saw lots and very little interest. AND sun was set already!!!! funny enough, as soon as the sun set, i had a white inhale my hook!!! whitie on the ice!!!! WOOHOO!!! after that, it was HOT AND HEAVY!!!! whites came in steady, often 3-4 at a time!!! limited out in half an hour!!!!! CRAZY!!! as fast as you could get your hook out of the fishes' mouth and back in the water was as fast as you'd hook another!!! barely able to let the hook sink all the way to bottom….NUTS!!!! a brutal bad ice scenario and late start ended up being well worth it. SUPER FUN!!!! i chalk it up to KARMA!!!! help a fellow fisherman out and got rewarded with a whitefish frenzy!!!! sweet!!!!! no camera so pics at home only…cheers, gw
