Sylvan Lake Perch
« on: January 26, 2017, 07:18:08 PM »
Well you'd think a guy that runs an ice fishing store would actually have time to fish, but too darn busy lol. Finally got out today, first time out, went out for perch on Sylvan, and there are perch in there if you know where to look, we found them and lots of little ones, but saw some eaters on camera, even a few humpbacks, but the buggers were so finicky, they would swim up to the lure and stare at it for 30 seconds then swim away, and we threw everything but the kitchen sink at them, best was about 11". But was great to get out.

That's a bigger perch than I've ever got out of Sylvan.  I've heard tales of the good old days when you could land some good chunky buggers out of there in deep water and have tried in years past but never had much luck.  Good that you're seein some good ones though, eventually on the right day a guy might hit it right where they take without caution.  The whites in there are pretty constant from my experience although haven't targeted whites in a while.
One thing Sylvan taught me is the value of weedlines.  I used to have a spot out in Marina bay that was in about 12' of water and if you drilled that 8 inches of ice just right you'd be fishing half sand half weeds.  Caught everything from whites to 20#+ pike out of that spot but for whatever reason decided to search more of the lake and found it really moody.  Generally take the family to Gull as the action is more consistent but would love to spend some more time on Sylvan. Thinking late ice would be a good time.

Easy there Sonny it's Sylvan not Tobin can't get to fussy lol. There are bigger perch OL_JR but like I said they were extremely fussy and weren't taking. Thinking if I had some small tungsten jig heads with meal worms maybe but hard to say. Noticed nobody really targets perch out there everyone after whites and C and R walleye maybe I dunno of i want to fish walleyes I will go up north where I can keep 1 or 2.
