Terrible pike filleting video
« on: July 23, 2017, 10:39:07 PM »
Came across this video and was pretty disgusted at the waste.  The funny thing is he mocks the five fillet method at the start which is regarded as a bit wasteful but take a peak at what he's left with at the end.  If I was an enforcement officer in his region I'd look at charging this guy for wasting edible meat.

10 lb of fish, 2 lb's of fillet. Someone did't go hungry when they where a kid to waste that much.

Sawzall on a fish, that's a new one, and someone needs to invest in a sharpener. I have some friends who are masters with a fillet knife, rare to find a bone in your eats.

Yeah I agree that was pretty brutal.  Those fish usually have huge thick fillets that are heavy, fish a huge steel bowl with one fish.  Yikes.

Sad to say that what I saw with some guys doing the 5 part method this year would have made this guy look great. Saw guys take a 16 pound pike and come out with maybe 2 pounds of fillets total. I would have harvested that much from a fish about 1/10th that size. To me it comes down to the respect for the fish. If you're going to harvested it you own it to the fish not to waste it.

Thanks for the post
