Under Ice Brook Trout Attack Analysis
« on: December 29, 2017, 08:50:10 PM »

Underwater Brook Trout Behavior while ice fishing using a Jaw Jacker, Len Thompson Spoon and Slender Spoon. To get this video I just pointed a GoPro down to watch what would go on while I had a Jaw Jacker set up and while jigging. This was a excellent day of brook trout fishing on very thin ice. The fish were coming in quickly and highly aggressive. You can see the difference in behavior between a dead stick presentation and jigging. It is very profound and might have you changing your fishing ways.

Hey Doc:

What was the water temperature when you were fishing for those brookies?

Those fish had a lot of movement in them for ice fishing.

And the inverts were going nutz with a pile of ice over them. WOW. I have never seen Daphnia (?) and Cyclops water fleas that size.

Only rainbows in my back yard for now and the pond hasn't froze this year and not sure if it will.  Also not living there since house under construction... hopefully back in February.

I'm not sure what the water temperature was but the Ice was 2 and 1/4 inch thick.  The week before had been a cold snap to -20s and these lakes around Merritt (2.5 hours away from us) froze up quick.  So November 10th I was out there.  That may be why they were so active.  Was basically open water a week or two before that.  The life in their is unreal.  Makes it hard to see the fish there is so much zooplankton.  Just crazy thick.

If you guys are ever in the Kamloops/Merritt/Okanagan area and want to ice fish let me know I have some good lakes.

Thanks for the answer Doc.

Do you ever head into the lakes west of Little Fort up highway 24?

I notice a lot of Kamloops folks hit those lakes....and folks from the coast with their ocean rigs :o ;).
