Under the Indicator - Underwater Trout attacking a Fly
« on: May 27, 2019, 06:33:36 PM »
Fly Fishing with a Strike Indicator handing a balanced leech can be highly effective and it sure is exciting seeing that float go down, even more interesting watching the rainbow trout underwater.  Check out the action as these trout go crazy for leech pattern flies.  One a high vis hot pink and green attraction pattern and a natural black pattern.  Hope you like the video and my thoughts of what that float is doing and why.

You have too fat of a fly body. Go slimmer with a  longer. hook.  And Blood Worms. Where are your blood worm patterns at this time of year?

What would be the point of going slimmer if the fish are eating this one like crazy?  This video was taken last fall like around October/November.  Is that when you use blood worms?  I was catching fish pretty continuos as it was with what I was using then.  In the BC interior lakes we usually use what we call micro leeches.  We use shorter small hooks rather than longer hooks, tied on a #12 or #14 hook.   I know a slim body seems to be what a lot of guy talk about, but fat bodied leeches work great in the fall.

Thanks for the speedy reply Brandon. I sort of got excited at your video and posted my comments. I posted my comments too soon after seeing your video. I read my post, and it now appears sort of "rough".  That shows your videos work on people. And that is good.
Best Wishes to you and the family. And Grandpa too :)

Thanks, but I was honestly asking.  I'm new to fly fishing and really don't know a whole lot about it and why guys do things a certain way or not.  If you've got advice and the reason why you'd do something different I'm always all ears.  Both of my Grandpas are deceased though, unfortunately no more fishing with any grandpa.  Oh and the thumbnail picture is just from a trout I caught on the weekend.  Not any of the ones seen in the video.  I've been catching on Chironomids too, but by the time I go out in the evening the leech does better.

These are my go to fly patterns.

I was watching your videos and thought there was an elderly gentleman with you. I thought it was grandpa.

Right now I am checking out lead core line fishing with a fly rod. I want to try for deeper walleye in LSL and deep water trout like in Maligne Lake.

Cheers ;)

I don't think I fish with anyone really that I'd classify as elderly yet.  My Dad, my uncle and my father inlaw.  Also family friend Rob.  I think the oldest would be my father inlaw and I think he just turned 66.  He still runs his farm and fixes equipment and what not.  Didn't think of any of them as elderly yet.  I'll check out the link, thanks.  Good luck with the lead core.
