Update on our boat situation.
« on: May 31, 2021, 03:02:37 PM »
So kind of falling behind on a recent update at our home. Late last summer we decided to go another rout on our big boat. As some may recall I had bought an older Wellcraft and reworked it through the winter of 18/19. I liked that boat but the wife and I just found it too big for use around home. My wife in particular was just nit comfortable with it around the marinas. So we made the decision to go new and with exactly what we wanted. As can imagine these tubs aren’t cheap anymore but if it’s what you want then why not.

It’s a 2021 Kingfisher 2225 Escape equipped with Merc 200 and a Merc 15 hp pro kicker. I purchased the boat from Gibbons motor toys with no electronics. I purchased the electronics through the winter from the Fishin Hole and did all the installs myself all from the Downriggers to the radios. A few pics of our new toy. Some of the pics from late last summer are pre full electronics install.

Some of my electronics, Full Hummingbird package. Helix 12 Chirp G4N up front, Helix 7 Chirp G3N at the rear helm, Chirp radar, VHF radio and of course Scotty Downriggers.

The main helm.

Rear helm.

And full suspension seats, Shockwave G5’s for both captain and passenger.

We got in a couple trips last summer to try it out. Full electronics not installed yet.

Wicked boat. With Covid toy pricing, I assume you got some good $$$ for the other boat.

Thanks sooner.

Things weren’t quite as crazy last summer as this in the used market but I was able to get out of the other boat what I put into it. In cash anyways certainly didn’t get paid any wages on it.

But I’ll tell you I’m glad we pulled the trigger when we did because not only have prices gone nuts on new and old, but that’s if you can even get one.

For sure. Had to replace my 2012 Summit last year as it had 11,000 k and getting tired. Took 2 months of daily searches before I found what I wanted for a decent price. Still over paid by about 1G for a 2015 but it came with goodies so it kind of evened things out.

Got a new grizz on order since march. No idea when it will arrive.

Hi Walleyes:

Are there any additions or changes you would have to make to your new boat for Salt water operation?

Just wondering.

No not really sooner, they make these boats saltwater ready and they are getting better all the time. You do have to be aware of it as you add stuff on and make sure it’s saltwater equipments. Such as any hardware has to be fastened with stainless hardware of course. But as far as the boat goes they make them for the salt as best they can.

Sweet ride.
I'm sure it will more then pay for itself in enjoyment.
Always a little more stress free running new/original owner equipment.
