Wind Direction
« on: May 20, 2019, 09:00:48 AM »
Fishing gets tough when the wind blows in from the East . Looks like an East wind for the rest of the week which is crappy seeing that I booked it off . Was hoping to hit Maligne and Rock lake but I'm guessing it may still have ice on it . Was out at Pierre Grey lakes for 4 hours yesterday trolling leeches off the bottom without a bite .

Personally I don’t put a whole lot of stock in a lot of the beliefs out there. I do know stormy cold wet weather will settle most fish down but wind direction in, my fishing anyways I’ve always been able to work around it. If there is a strong east wind I will concentrate on the west shores and west facing feeding spots, go where the bait is philosophy.

It is turnover time in lakes.  You can't rush them.

Remember. An entire lake does not turnover at one time. Certain places on a lake turnover faster than others.

A strong wind over several days usually fixes that problem in the end.

Right now we have a nice east wind. Lots of oxygen to those wintering fish.

Wind from the east..
Fish bite the least.
Wind from the west..
Fish bite the best..

My mother in law (born 1918 RIP) told me this many many years ago and I thought she was full of $(*&

But you know,it's true.. I'm a believer. ;) ;)

The brooky lake at Pierre Greys would definitely be turning over , water temp was 44 deg. F and the ice had only been off for 4 or 5 days.  Although it is a tough lake to fish with an East wind at any time . It's small enough to cover the entire lake in an hour so It's not a matter of locating trout. I ended up hitting a rainbow lake yesterday and managed to net a half a dozen trolling a ruby leech and minnows,  water temp. was 50 deg. F .

Looks like Maligne lake is still locked up and may be iced over into June.
